Pace Vs. Average Pace

I've recently picked up a GPS watch and I'm wondering the benefits of having my watch set to display "pace" vs. "average pace." If folks have feedback I'd appreciate it.

Personally I like to know both, but if I had to choose I would choose "average pace".

Your "pace" is just a snapshot in time and not really representative of the whole walk or run.

I like the pace vs average pace but again its a personal preference. WIth some GPS you can have 4 different displays on the screen at least with my old one I could.

I use the nike watch which gives me two viewing options. I like having the main option being distance run. Above that I can pick clock, elapsed time (which I use for taking my Gu), pace, average pace, calories burned.

I have been using average pace so I can estimate my goals. For example, this Sunday I'm hoping to break a 2-hour 13.1. If I have it set to "average pace" and it's at 9 minutes I guess it means I'm on the right track. I guess the benefit of knowing your current pace is to know if you want to speed up or slow down?
