This is one of my favorite holidays  Not only does it support my pinko socialist beliefs, but it comes during a time when there are very few days off (between July 4 and Thanksgiving). If they would just invent a holiday for March, the year would be perfect.

So I didn't walk very far yesterday (little over 4 miles), but it was fast walking. It's just hard sometimes to have that much time. Today, husband and I are going for a bike ride then I'm teaching a free day of yoga class in the afternoon. I hope to have a big class and see more people coming to yoga. I'm such a believer that I want people to come to class.

Happy Workouts!

I was beginning to think I was the only pinko socialist around these parts. . .

The Ontario liberals got elected last time on primarily one cornerstone in their platform: there was no holiday Monday in the month of February. There is one now. We have a holiday Monday/long weekend once a month. (I'm pretty sure there's one a month, anyways. . .) What's not to love?

Today is Yoga and cooking dinner. I'm trying to really scale back the whole "let's just eat out" urge. It's the trap of being able to walk five feet to five different restaurants. I'm making that change, and starting to be really brutal with what workout calories I'm counting. I've been working under the assumption that the "afterburn" of a workout is accounting for the fact that my HRM includes BMR calories in my workout calories. Yesterday, I deducted them. (actually, I worked out longer than usual so I could deduct the last 65 calories) Also, I'm appreciating how no "empty calories" = huge meals. Last night was two low-fat, nitrate free thai spiced chicken sausages, an entire roasted sweet potato, a red pepper, a cucumber and a little homemade tzatziki sauce. So, I'm trying to focus on better food = more food. (I like more food. )

Let's hope these little adjustments = my pants falling off. Or my shirts.

Anyway, that's my life story for the day.

Happy workouts, take care of yourselves!:flowerforyou:

Hi friends. I am sorry to say that this weekend has been a bit of a mess for me. Something about having to be on-call and chained to the house for large chunks of time, and then cooking for others, going to a picnic, and helping people move - I just haven't felt like doing any DVDs or anything I can do here. And I'm aware of how soon the weather will start changing and I'll be stuck inside again for months, though. Oh, and I'm completely not doing what I really ought to be doing, which is working on my project so I can finish my degree. So that is hanging over my head and stressing me out. Call it the first of September blues.

Oh, my God. . .do I feel you there! :noway: I think that only insane people enjoy grad school! (or maybe I'm crazy, and only sane people do) It is so hard to do your own stuff when you're working for the university. (I have to constantly remind myself that I don't work for my University. . .I'm a student there.)

I'm having "adviser woes" as well. He's MIA, and I need help. I told one of my friends the other day that we need a month between August and September to "mentally prepare/get ahead in our own work" for the fall.
    Try to stay positive!:flowerforyou:

Good morning, pinko socialists and all!

I'm off to the gym -- need to weigh in today. I'm also continuing the weekly workout from bodybuilding.com. I'm really liking the program and am feeling great!

On a side note, I got offered another dream job, and need to decide if I should bail on Extreme Home Makeover (and burn a bridge), or stick with it. I'm CRAVING adventure with every fiber of my being and the new job would be trekking into the wilds of Alaska and following a group of people as they live off the land in the winter. Pretty hardcore...pretty appealing (to me, at least).

What to do, what to do.

I'll be mulling it over at the gym as I...
    ~ do 40 minutes cardio
~ train shoulders/ tris with weights
    ~ drink my water
    ~ take my vitamins
    ~ log my calories

    Have a great holiday!

Hey everyone! I will try to post a longer one later today if I have time. I've been working on my camaro today. That's my exercise I guess. I also did my push ups. I am going to try to get in Shred today, not sure which level. Depends on how tired I am from working on my car. I've been at it three hours so far and I am only about half way done with what I want to do.
So I'll try to check back later! I hope you all have a great day!

Oh man, I know exactly! I pretty much put the whole d**n thing on hold for 2 years because I couldn't find an advisor who would actually respond to me. It can be soooooooooo frustrating. Keep hounding! I just went for a long drive/walk with my husband so I could talk through some of the issues that are getting me stuck at the moment. So I'm feeling a little better, and am going to go do stuff! As soon as I finish this post! Really! I hereby promise to try to stay positive if you will. :flowerforyou:

Melissa, good luck with the car! About all I know how to do is put gas in mine... :embarassed:

WL - that sounds like an exciting opportunity, and right up your alley. But burning bridges is scary. I hope your gym time helps lead you to a good decision. Good luck - these are the sort of "problems" you want to have!

Ha! Although...I thought that about the Antarctica race as well. Maybe the cold weather makes you pack it on though -- I've lost more here at home going to the gym than I did trekking across the continent!

In Alaska we'll be hunting/ eating bear...sanctioned by the wildlife conservatory of course. Still...a bit scary.
  • Hi all! I didn't check in all weekend cause I didn't do much in the way of exercise. I did kick around the soccer ball with my little one and did some monster back to school shopping and went to see my granddaughter several times. Today I washed my truck and went to the playground for a bit.

I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend.

All right. I'm done working on the car for the day. I was out there doing body work for 5-6 hours. It says I burned over 1,000 calories, but I don't think I worked that hard. I did sweat but didn't really get my heart rate up too much. I did make some progress on it which has motivated me to work on it some more this week! It would help if it would cool off!
I was going to do Shred but I am kind of worn out. It is on my schedule for tomorrow.
I need to go. I will see you all tomorrow!

  • Hey guys...

Today I did Shred Level 2... doing more and more without modifications and with heavier weights on some moves.

Weigh-in was this morning... down 2 more lbs. That makes my total 18 lbs. Woo hoo!

Congrats, Julie! You granddaughter is beautiful!

WL--That's a tough decision to make... Alaska sounds so adventurous... Good luck to you!
