Just got my Droid X 5 days ago. I already rooted the phone and installed some fun apps. So what are some must have apps? Here is a screen shot of my baby so far.

  • RunKeeper is great if you are going to run, bike, walk or just about any other cardio. And of coarse MyFitnessPal!

Lookout app to scan all your apps you down load. I also have my bank's app downloaded so I can keep my accounts squared away on the go (IDK if yours has one usaa, chase, and i think wells fargo are the ones I have seen so far). Weatherbug, facebook....Those are the apps that I use the most (minus the stupid games I downloaded).

LOL...if you check my pic, you can see the MFP icon and of course one of the first apps I installed was Angry Birds.

I am thinking of forgoing your normal wallpaper and going with something like this...

    http://androinica.com/2010/09/20/how-to-create-gorgeous-homescreen-layouts-with-launcherpro-plus-and-desktop-visualizer/

I am going to create an icon for MFP in photoshop this weekend. I already have LauncherPro and Desktop VisualizeR. If anyone wants the icon, let me know and I will upload to photobucket or put it in my dropbox.

  • My current Android app list: http://www.appbrain.com/user/sthlm/apps-on-the-htc-desire

I test sports apps, especially those compatible with wireless sensors like heart rate monitors, for info to include on my blog: Runningdigital.com So, my list has more sports apps than I use regularly. SportsTracker Pro, Run.GPS and OmniSense are my sports picks.

QuickDesk add-on launcher is fantastic for multi-tasking. I use it with Go Launcher EX.

I guess I can share some of the cool ones I have found so far. If there is a (R) that means your phone has to be rooted for the app to work.

    Android Assistant

You know all those annoying key ring cards companies give you for discounts or memberships? This app allows you store the bar code and membership number so you don't need to carry the card anymore. Only problem is that it seems to be hit or miss of the bar code actually scans. I guess it depends on the phone and the type of scanner.

By march, I will either be a pro with the phone, I will have broken the OS or I caused it to catch fire.

Since you're rooted, Titanium Backup and Rom Manager are useful system utility tools.

Instant Heart Rate monitor is pretty cool for us fitness nerds.

Google Sky Map is just plain awesome

KeePass is a nice tool for securing all your passwords

Last.fm is a nice music streaming app. Kind of like Pandora, but a little different

DI Radio another streaming app for electronic music like house, trance, techno, etc

Yeah, I use CyanogenMod (currently version 6.1.2). It's got a few nice tweaks/improvements from the stock rom.

Warning: If you decide to go that route, you will need to wipe all your data and you'll have to reinstall all your apps again. You can mess up your phone if things go wrong.

I nearly broke my droid when I hit myself in the head with it using the ShakeWeight app. I immediately uninstalled it.

Not using that app, but my wife has emailed me Kohl's coupons with barcodes that I've used in store. Sometimes I've had to futz with getting it sized just right so the scanner gun would recognize it.
