P90x?

Okay, so I've seen people post about this on here before but I never knew what it was until I saw the info-mercial on TV today. It looks like an interesting program, but I don't want to invest over 100 dollars into something that doesn't really work well. I have been doing the Biggest Loser DVD's for a while and found that I've been getting bored and just stopped excersizing for a bit. Ugh!
Can anyone give me their opinions on the P90x, good or bad. Is it worth the money? Is it easy to stick to? And did you actually install a pull up bar somewhere? I have no where to put one up in my house!

I've done some P90x with my brother-in-law and it "is" extreme. I believe there is a precursor P90 program which is perhaps a better starting point. But some of the P90x sessions were 90 minutes long and you had to be pretty fit to even try to keep up.0

P90X is the most well-rounded fitness program ever! It will get every part of your body into shape - cardio; strength; flexibility; etc. It requires a big commitment as there is a workout each day. I installed my pull-up bar in the doorway of my bath/closet. I finished my 1st round a few weeks ago. Not only will you be in better shape after the 90 days but you will be so much more educated on nutrition. As long as you have at least 1 hour to devote to the workouts each day for 90 days, I would definitely consider purchasing it.0

WELL worth every penny. I've been using it for over a year and it is the BEST home fitness program out there. My dh & I have had great results and since then I became a coach for TeamBeachbody. Let me know if you have any questions, my contact info is in my profile!

I do not own the entire program. I also had a hard time spending that much money on something I haven't tried. I had purchased 2 single discs on ebay to try it. I am now saving up some money to buy the whole kit. It is wonderful. I tried the Legs and Back disc and the Chest, Tris, and Shoulders disc. WHAT A WORKOUT.
As was stated the workouts are geared are for someone with a fundamental knowledge of circuit training and weight lifting. From my undersatnding there is an "entry physical fitness test". You should be able to google it and find it.... might be worth looking at first.0 -

Those are both awesome workouts! There is a fitness test to see if you're ready for it. The only thing that I could not do prior to starting was pullups, but there are a lot of modifications. Now I can do full pullups and LOVE it!

I will be starting this program on Monday.
I have been working out with various programs for years.
I will let you know what I think if I survive the first week.0 -
Thanks for all of the responses! The only thing is, I don't really have an hour to give each day right now..ugh! And I have no where to put up a pull-up bar! Ugh! I do think it looks like a great program. I'll keep thinking about it.0
-
I don't have anywhere for a pull up bar either. I am using a resistance band with a block strap (an attachment you can stick in a door). It may alter the results a bit but it'll work.
I was worried about the hour too...but I am gonna do it.
Tony does a Power 1/2 hour program as well.....may want to look into that too at Beachbody.com0 -

Do you have a doorway?? The P90X chinup bar just slides into your doorway. You don't have to screw it in or anything, it just slides in and you're ready to go! My dh weighs about 185# and we've had NO problems w/ it.
And yes, there are other great programs from Beachbody- Power 90 is a good one that would be a good *starter* for P90X and has shorter workouts (from 30-45 min usually). HTH!
Jess0 -
Yeah, I was looking into the Power 90 videos..they seem to be a little more like my level right now!0

They're a good intro to P90X, you still do pushups, weights, and cardio. Let me know if you have more questions!

How long are the P90 videos, he mentioned time being an issue too. :indifferent:0

It looks like the Power 90 is about $75.00 off the website with shipping..I'm hoping to find it cheaper on Ebay!! haha..I found one for $31.00, but it doesn't end until tomorrow, so who knows how much it will be by then.0

Whew....holy cow!
Let me tell you what, that'll get up a sweat!
I'm doing the lean version and WOW!
I could barely keep up and had to modify a lot of moves.
Important note.....have water.0 -

Good Job Chubby Bunny! Yep, lot's of water and a towel! It will get easier I promise. Don't forget the pause button, if you need to catch up, or catch your breath.

As others have stated, P90x is the "xtreme" version of the P90 program. There is also P90 for a beginning exerciser and P90 Master Series for those with some exercise history. I was back on forth on choices and ended up buying (and starting) P90 Master. I have to say - it's perfect for me. I have to do most of the moves in modified format (easiest) but I can complete all the movements and most of the reps 1 week in. By day 90 I'm hoping to be on the standard movement for all reps.
For reference, I had some physilcal capability in my past but haven't exercised regularly for many years (I'm 44). I tested myself before I started and I could complete ~10 pushup, maybe 16 sit ups and found 15 seconds of jumping jacks to be enough - not particularly impressive. However, I am using the resistance bands and can complete all the movements with the heaviest bands already (former powerlifting experience helping her, I think). Hopefully this can help guage where you might start.
It's definitly a fun workout - always changing, mixing it up. Good luck to you....Mike0 -
I am also doing the lean version and today was my first day. I did Core Synegergistics and WOW it kicked my butt, I honestly thought I was going to throw up once it was all over and I was in the cool down. But I did alot better than I thought I would, I made it through the whole workout, of course I modified a few things, and there were 2 things I couldn't do at all, but I will in time:happy: I'm excited to see what results I get, I just wish I could get my eating habbits where they are suppose to be!!0

I'm still deciding if I want to spend the money on the system, it looks good, but it's a big pricey! I might just have to stick to my Biggest Loser DVD for a little bit longer..haha..0
-
It took me a whole year to decide on buying it, so don't rush in to it.
It's an extreme workout and as Tony says, there are other workouts that will give you results.
As of this morning....I have some serious aches in places I didn't know could ache.0 -

It's totally worth it! It is pricey, but I always figure my health is worth it. ;o)0 -

Woohoo, gotta love those DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness). And yes, a towel and water bottle are requirements for the workouts!

Totally agree on the water and towel....there was a moment I was thinking I may pass out.
Wouldn't hurt to have a tiny snack before hand too. (I did it right out of bed, before breakfast....not good).0 -

Yeah, you might want to eat something before you start. A banana always works for me!
