I used to have way heavy periods. What helped me is birth control. It makes your periods much lighter and half the time. A lot of women have messed up cycles. Its best if you visit an OB GYN. I am now on Mirena and my periods are way light. They sucked the first three months though. I know how it is. Go see a dr so you don't have to keep dealing with this. Best of luck!

This happened to me also when I was a teenager. I was heavy into sports and running and ended up having my period for nearly a month straight. It is your hormones all out of whack. Because I was underage, my father (single parent) took me to a gynecologist who had to put me on birth control for a couple months just to stop the bleeding and get my hormones under control. It is not good at all to be losing that much blood. Because of the blood loss, I had started becoming anemic and blacking out!

Talk to your mom or any other female you trust and get in to seeing a gynecologist ASAP!

That is alot of fluid loss. I think you should consult your gyno. It may be a warning sign from your body that something is wrong.. sorry... better to be safe though..

    best wishes.....
  • You've had your period for 3 weeks? That doesn't sound normal at all. I suggest you go see (though i should too about other stuff) a gynocologist. Mine used to last for about 6-7 days then over the course of the past few year's it now only lasts about 4 days. I know everyone is different. But 3 weeks, you're best best is to go see the gyno hun.
  • I would definitely go see a doctor! That's not normal and it has to be such a pain to deal with!
  • That's so weird, I have been having the same problem lately. My period has been something like 26 days. Ridiciously. Are you on birth control pill? I have been on them for years and every once in a while I will have a problem like this. The last time this happened I had a 22 day period. It ended up being a hormone imbalance. The doctor has me take two birth control pills a day, the first time it was for a whole month, this time around it was for 6 days. So I think you should really talk to your doctor because it isn't normal to have a month period. It could be just a hormone imbalance or something more. I think either way you need to get it taken care of to make sure it doesn't continue. If you don't have insurance maybe they have some kind of womans clinic in the area like a planned parenthood. They are very good with giving women regular health screenings. Hopefully you find out what is going on and you start to feel better. I know how much it sucks.

You might want to see your gyn. or an endo doc just to make sure everything is okay.

i was diagnosed with PCOS. really horrible periods amongst other things.

I agree--visit your ob/gyn. It can be uneven hormones, fibroids, or worse. Have the Doc look, take blood tests, and see what he or she thinks.

Hi There, If you are bleeding for a full month you should see your doctor. This is not normal. As previously quoted...better safe.
    Good Luck!!

You should definitely go see your doctor about this. A friend of mine went through something similar and it turned out she had uterine tumors. She ended up having a hysterectomy.

You should definately see a doctor. I've never heard of them lasting that long, and it's better to be safe.

    Gyno. NOW.

I went through high school bleeding through 8 super long, heavy duty, overnight pads every day. Mom took me to gyno & we found out I had PCOS.

Plz see a doctor ASAP. A super tampon in 15 min is crazy blood loss. A coworker of mine had a seisure right next to me because she was losing so much blood from her period. Very scary. Good news is that they can probably put you on a birth control pill or IUD to lessen your period and get you on a normal schedual. Bad news is that most of the birth control methods cause mild to moderate weight gain so... (sigh). But seriously make an appointment quick as you can, you don't wanna take the chance that something may be wrong and could inhibit fertility in the future or become a serious medical issue. Good luck.

If you're having a lot of pain, you could also have endometriosis. Also, regardless of what is going on with your body, taking birth control pills to relieve the symptoms is just masking the real problem; make sure you see someone who is interested in treating the root cause of what's happening in your body.
  • I have my period almost everyday. Most of the time it's light but twice a month I get PMS (lucky husband and kids) and heavy for a few days. I have had tons of tests, birth control and ablasion surgery done (helped make it lighter). My suggestion is to be proactive and get yourself checked out. Remeber you know your body better than anyone so don't let your doctor sluff it off. Keep track of it and request a specialist. It's your right. Good luck hopefully it's just a one time thing.

I agree with everyone. Go check out with the dr. depending on you and what you eat you may need some iron as well. That much bleeding can zap your iron.
