Hi
I have just lost 16.5 lbs in three weeks, I eat a total of 1500 cals a day, breakfast, lunch, snacks & dinners plus drink loads of water.
I exercise 1 hours / 5 times a week gentle cv and try and keep heart rate at 130 ish and try to burn between 500/700 cals a session, but do I not eat these cals but use them as a bonus to loose wieght.
nut as mentioned above I eat my five portions of fruit veg, drink loads and stick to 1500 cals?
But I am a little concerned that the weight is coming off too fast, is this safe am I doing this correct?
All advice welcome.

some people just lose weight faster than others...metabolism changes and the fact that you're not eating your burned cals is really helping! wtg!0

Your plan sounds ok, but I think 1500 calories a day for a man is way too few. You could probably continue what you are doing, but you will most likely plateau sometime in the near future.0

Thanks! its just friends say it is unhealthy and I am loosing it to fast?
But I think your right it will plateau out, goal is to loose a further 20lb by May ;-)0 -
Does seems like it's coming off a little fast, but if you're feeling OK, why worry too much? It will probably plateau out soon anyway. Keep up the good work!0

Wow - I'm amazed! I'm taking in 1500 - 1600 a day and losing about 1-2 lb a week for the last few weeks, 6 total so far. I'm older though and not really so active. So, I'm really tickled for you! Sounds like you're doing great!0

You should be eating 1500 plus the extra calories you earn through exercise. So on days you burn 500 cals you should be eating a total of 2000 (1500+500), by not eating them your caloirc deficit can become too large and your body may start to burn muscle, instead of fat, as fuel, not what you want.0

You just started so quite a bit of that could be water weight. You will most likely see it slow down some. Depending on how big you are that could be quite normal.
Remember to stay above 1200 net calories or you loss could possibly come to a stop (Starvation Mode is real). 1200 is the general number.
Congrats on the loss! You're on your way!!!0 -
The theory is that if you lose more than 2lbs per week you're losing lean mass/muscle as well as fat.
Working out and not eating back any cals leaves your body in a nutritional deficit is regarded as unhealthy. A man (or woman) needs his nutrition, not only to build muscle but to maintain vital body and brain functions. How are you feeling having lost so much weight in so little time? Perhaps this would be an indicator of if you're healthy or not?
There is a massive debate about both these subjects, and I'm sure it will start again here......lol.....so really, I'm just arming you with that information for you to make your own mind up
Good luck :flowerforyou:0 -

1500 for a man, 1200 is for a woman0 -
You're a man, so that's not unheard-of. Even for me, 15+ lbs in the first month did happen -- once you reduce calorie intake, you lose a lot of water that gets stored with glycogen. It will slow down. I'm now down 38 lbs after a bit over 3 months, and it's definitely a lot slower.
I do think, though, that 1500 calories is low especially if you aren't very small and slight. Do you have an idea what your BMR is? It's a good guideline to stick around that value to avoid putting your body under too much stress in the long run. Even if it keeps working so well, it might stop at one point once your body has caught on that it's losing a lot of weight rather fast, and make it harder for you. Danger is also greater that you might regain it more easily if you lose weight too fast and/or dig into your muscle mass more than necessary instead of burning more fat.0 -

Perhaps it is coming off so fast because you are not eating enough. If you eat/drink 1500 calories a day and are burning 500-700 of them off that only leaves your body with 800-1000 calories to survive off of. ...Not enough at all! If I am off base someone please correct me.0 -
Hi all,
Am new to fitness pal and find that it is a great way to keep count of calories and exercise.
I am on week 4 of a 5 boot camp which ranges in classes from circuits, aerobics weights to kick boxing. I do this 3 nights a week and the gym the other 2 and then walking at the weekends. I am at a complete stand still weight wise i have lost 1lb since i started - needless to say am rather disappointed.
Am eating the recommended 1200 calories a day and drink approx 1.5litres of water - anyone any suggestions i need to loose 14lbs for a healthy BMI - appreciate any help as i am at burn out and give up point :-)0 -

Just remember those numbers when your weight loss begins to slow down, because it will, and that's normal. Also where did you start from? If you were an inactive person and then became extremely active, yes it's fine. It also depends on your body mass, people with a larger BM (Body Mass) typically lose weight at faster rate than those that have smaller BM. A lot of that could be water weight, also, which is normal, if you have a larger BM.
Is 1500 calories your net, intake?
But yes, it can be normal.... I lost 7lbs in 10 days, at the start of this month, when I started recording on MFP.. When I first started working out back in Nov, on WW,... I had only lost 5lbs, for the whole month and then Dec, I lost basically nothing, I was averaging half a lb maybe a week, then at the start of Jan, I lost that 7 lbs in 10 days... now I am back to maybe a half lb a week, so I measure. I go by inches rather than the scale. I plan on not weighing in, but every other week. I know the scale is slowing, normally I weigh in once a week, but I will continue to take my measurements weekly. That is more important to me, the inches coming off.0 -
I think your right, I think i will start be eating half the cals that I burn at the gym as that will increase my intake by to about 1800 cals.
But I eat healthy & well and drink loads of water.
For info I am 45 starting on 11th Jan at 107.6kg now 100.1kg
Feel great and no adverse effects
Had my blood pressure tested yesterday and it was 147/87 little high but hope to bring down by diet and exercise.
thanks guys for all your comments and advice it is very much appreciated.
Kind regards
