I can get behind this. I haven't been drinking much soda for the last month, but I am willing to cut it all out. Green tea and water for me too!

Good luck!!! I quit soda on June 24, 2010. Before that I would drink about 2 of the 2 liter bottles a day. It was rough the first couple weeks. (especially headaches but excedrin really helped relieve them) Then it was easier and easier although a few months ago every time I got stressed I would want a soda really bad... now that seems to have passed also and I haven't had any at all in 7 months and I have to tell you that I didn't see weight loss from stopping (it was all diet) but I did feel and sleep better without it.

Without even realizing it I have went without it for a week (I drink diet mt. dew). I have actually noticed a difference; I sleep better and am not so tired during the day as a result. So, no more for me:smile:
  • I did this one year for Lent. It was just something that my friends and I decided to do. So, as hard as it was, we did it. I lost a good amount of weight. I was very active at the time, and cutting out all the sugar allowed me to loose about 25 pounds. I never really realized how much sugar and how many calories I was consuming.... Good luck.

It's not hard at all, just fall in love with your healthy replacements! I did 6-9 Dr. Peppers a day. That was until 14 months ago, then I had the last one (or any other soda, or caffine for that matter). And I've never looked back!

Good luck. I quit soda about 3 years ago when my doctor told me 1 diet soda a day can add 10 pounds of fluid weight. She said diet is just as bad as regular. It takes a little getting use to drinking water since it doesn't have a taste but now it's all I drink.

I'm in! One of my biggest challenges when I fall off my diet is Ginger Ale. I crave it almost every afternoon and have at least one a day when I'm not counting calories. I was able to successfully go off of it last summer (last 13 lbs!) but I'm back up 9 of those lbs so I'm cutting it all out again. 30 days of no soda sounds good to me!

My substitute is Lipton Diet Green Tea Mixed Berry... and straight up hot black tea, as well. I really recommend the Lipton stuff - it's sweet, without having any sugar!

I use to drink a 3 liter of diet coke everyday. Broke that habit more than 15 yrs. ago. You can do it.

Dr. Oz says that drinking soda will inhibit your weight loss. I admit I treat myself to one diet coke a week.:blushing:

It's a difficult task, but it can be done!

Soda finatic is putting it mildly! I would go through a 2L soda every day -- at least! That was my ONLY source of liquid. I drink NO water and almost no decaf tea. Also, aspartame gives me migraines, so the soda was regular -- yep, the full sugar kind.

Be encouraged!!!! I've been off soda now for about 3 weeks and I don't really miss it. I began to realize how many calories I was spending on soda and decided that I would rather EAT those calories, not drink them! :) If you're drinking diet and aren't worried about the calories, think about the sodium that's in those drinks and the water it makes you retain which makes your weigh-ins not as good as they could be. Also think about your bones becoming brittle from the carbonation.

I have to admit that I will have a "swig" now and then, but I can count on one hand how many swallows I've had in the past 3 weeks......4 swallows of soda. That's it! :):):):) Don't get me wrong......an ice cold bottle of Dr. Pepper would be good right about now, but I don't CRAVE it like I used to. I can easily watch other people down their sodas while I drink my water or decaf iced tea, or decaf hot tea and be perfectly happy.

Y'all can do it!!!!! If I can get off of soda, ANYONE can! :)

I have always loved my sodas (many different varieties), but haven't had one since the first day I started logging my food intake on MFP. Today is day 22 without any soda of any kind. So I'm close to the 30 days already. I haven't really set out to not drink it, but every couple of days I'll think about if I might have one that day, and decide that I might as well pass on it just one more day.

It hasn't been overly difficult (Sure, I'd LOVE to have a soda, but I haven't been craving one), but that won't be the same case for everybody. What once was a fairly small supply of soda in the house (maybe 4-5 days worth) has now become a long-term supply. I'll drink soda again, but in smaller doses.

I'm with you. 31 days soda free now. I'm substituting....water. Yeah, lame, I know.
  • I gave up diet coke at Christmas. I used to drink it 3-4 times a day...now I have water plain or flavored. I tried to drink a diet coke the other day and it was way too sweet. I guess I lost my taste for it...I'm glad because I don't miss it at all.

This is very tough to do but extremely rewarding. By my estimations (I'm no expert) it is the single largest reason for obesity in our country. As a kid my parents couldn't keep the house stocked with enough 2L bottles of soda. I was drinking sooo much of it until I lost 50 lbs in 2003. Since then I may have had maybe 2-3 drinks a year of Diet Red Bulls or the occasional rum/Coke.

I found that club soda and seltzer is a good way to ween myself off soda. I sometimes put a splash of OJ or some other natural fruit juice in to add flavor.

Go for it and good luck!! You will be amazed by the positive results.

PS - Be careful with diet sodas and artificial sweeteners!
  • Alright! IM IN!!! Thanks for starting this challenge! I gained a pound this weekend, so i was going to punish myself this week with NO SODA! So why not just give it up for a month!? I gave it up for a week (about 2 weeks ago) & the first 2 days was alil hard but after that i was like WOW today is the 5th day!? Its just hard to break the habit but it CAN be done!!!

Ok count me in!!! I am on day 4 as I started the no soda journey last Friday. I survived the weekend even. For me it has been all water with the exception a small glass of grape juice each day.

I used to drink more than 2 liters of Diet Pepsi a day. I will admit I have gone this route before and after months I landed back on the soda band wagon. So even though this challenge is 30 days I would like to think of it as 30 years.

Excedrin can help the severe headaches as you rid your system of the caffiene. It does have caffiene in it but it will help you step down without the severe headaches you may suffer from withdrawal.
  • I'm totally in too. I have gone over 2 weeks without soda... I cheated with two pepsis my first week of working out... it was soooo hard :) My weakness is dr pepper, so it's been 3 weeks without it. I will join in and keep staying away from soda :) I have replaced soda with green tea, water, and hot tea (for coffee replacement). :) Good luck everyone!

You can do it! I did this as a challenge for my family (at the time 13 yo son, 17 yo daughter and husband) back in May of 2009....still haven't had a soda! Best of luck to you all!!!

I stopped drinking regular soda years ago after drinking it for breakfast and all day long for years. After giving up regular Pepse,I drank diet Pepsi instead of any other liquids for a long time, but now the most I drink is one can of Diet Pepsi Max a day, and this is only if I have a migrain coming on. The Dr. prescribed caffine for the headaches, but I am not fond of coffee, and only drink regular tea once in a while. Most of the time the caffine in the Pepsi will stop the headache and I won't have to take any pills either. So, Guess I can't take the challenge, but I will take it as far as recreational soda drinking.

Day 5 for me and still holding strong. I am wondering if it is just me or does anyone else feel their belly is a bit flatter without all the carbonation in it? Headaches are easing a bit from caffiene withdrawal and I am hoping that will not be an issue in a few more days.

Ok I am in. I have a lapband and really should be drinking any sode. I do enjoy coke zero!!! I can give it up. I have a whole box of green tea bags, I am not one to drink hot tea. Can you just make tea like i would with black tea bags. Does anyone do this?
  • I didn't have any yesterday. Today I did have a little. But a huge improvement from what I'm used too. I'm used to 2-3 24 oz bottles. Today I had one 12oz can that I didn't even finish all the way. Pretty good. I don't feel as sluggish.
