Sore knees and ankles... don't want to move...let alone exercise. i've noticed that since i gained about 15 pounds more than i've weighed at my previous highest, my knees and ankles are killing me. i want to exercise, but the pain is so intense. i walk to work every morning, and it is about a 20 minute walk, so at least i get some exercise.

any tips for making them less sore? thanks!

Use non-impact workouts to help burn the calories -- as you stated the additional weight is causing wear and tear - so the answer is to lose that weight.

    Bike, walking, low-impact aerobics.. etc.

You can do it.. just stay positive and take it one day at a time.
  • If you go to the gym do the elliptical or EFX machine. It's easy on your ankles and knees! I had the same problem at first...it does go away!
  • Soak in Epsem Salts. You can pick them up inexpensively at a drug store, and they really help releave swelling and soreness. Ibuprophen is also an option. Take it about an hour before your workout begins (or at the end of a long day to help you sleep better). Eventually the pain will go away on its own, after you work out for a while.

ICE! I had an ACL repair on me left knee in 1982 and whenever I exercise heavily it gets sore. ICE always helps. Generally I ice the knee for 7 to 10 minutes after exercising. If nothing else, the cold takes your mind away from the pain of the joint and focuses it on the cold numbing sensation.

Good luck and don't get discouraged!
