I have about 30" of snow on the ground and it's about 4 feet in some places because of drifitng. I'll be outside today burning calories by removing snow from my sidewalk and driveway. Who's with me?

I'm heading out now -- although you have me beat in total snow depth. My workout will be clearing the basement steps -- I have to carry the load up the five steps, and it's drifted 4 feet up against the door. The rest of it is only about 10 inches. I'm on the south side of Chicago -- where are you?

That sounds like a great workout. We only have about 3 inches here in Denver, but all of the brutal cold. Currently -6 outside. Guess I will haveto stay in and get my heart rate up. I wonder how many calories doing laundry burns, lol!

Last week, I burned 1400 calories shoveling snow (we had 9"). Last night's ice storm ended up being mostly rain, so there isn't anything for me to shovel this week. I did shovel 30" last year in Feb., so I know what that is like!

Ha we have about 18 inches. I spend 30 mins out there yesterday, and just got the front of the house semi cleared. still have the back of the house steps, and between the house and garage (where it drifted about 4 feet!) and in front of the garage to get anything out of the garage! so yes I will be joining you today! Lots of scooping! I know it is cold but the scooping keeps ya pretty warm!
  • it's such a great way to burn calories.... I have come to LOVE shoveling! I live in MN so I've done tons of shoveling and I keep my cement safe for my daycare parents. Killing 3 birds with one stone..

I went out 3 times yesterday. Once w/ Snow blower, once to clear the 1/2 inch of ice that fell after and another to clear the front of the driveway where the plows tossed icy slush.

This morning I did my morning treadmill workout and went out and did another pass with the snow blower - I suspect I'll be out a time or two again today
  • I pay association fees, I don't shovel jack!

However, I think I want to build a HUGE snow fort and plan a large scale snowball fight with the neighborhood...

I too am blessed with a ton of snow. I have drifts taller then my horses! But I am lucky to have a husband with a skidloader and a snow blower behind the tractor. Of course I would maybe be in better shape if I shoveled it! javascript:add_smiley('laugh','post_body')

I'm with you! I'll be out there today, live in Michigan and we got hit last night, still getting hit actually!
  • It's still coming down here in Southern Illinois (As in almost KY/IL border) but we don't even have what we would consider a full dusting on the ground yet... Not even sure I *could* get it into a shovel!!

I wish I could join you on this. My 3-year-old son hates playing in the snow, so it's impossible for me to shovel because I can't leave him in the house without supervision. He WILL eat anything he finds on the floor. And probably flush some toys down the toilet.

I am usually the one who wears the "snow pants" in our house, but since my husband is home, he feels the urge to shovel the 18 inches on our driveway. Since we are expected to get more snow on Sunday, I'll probably get to shovel that while he watches the Superbowl.
  • We have about 2ft of snow to shovel here. I spent an hour and made it 20 ft. Another hour and Ill make it to the driveway. Thats where the real fun starts.

I'm just north of Chicago and went for a nice walk this morning. Took 45 minutes just to get around my apartment building -- drifts up to my hips at times. When I got too tired to keep going, I made a snow angel. It was fantastic!

I logged it as 45 min. of cross-country hiking and then had a nice, hot breakfast with zero guilt. I wish myfitnesspal had some activities designated as summer or winter, though. I guarantee I worked harder hiking through snow up to my knees than I would hiking on dry ground!
