My brother got married this weekend, I was one of the bridesmaids, I lost 30 lbs in the past year in preparation for the wedding, when i was originally fitted i needed a size 16 dress and ended up getting a size 10 which fit perfectly. I was thrilled and it looked great but when i saw the pictures all i can see is how huge my arms and neck are it makes me look so much bigger than i am. I feel so disappointed i put so much work into loosing weight and i still looked bad. Why can't i seem to lose weight in my arms and neck?

  • I had the same problem until my husband told me that I need to tone the back of the arms, with weights and push ups and back arm lunges, then you will see them shrink. I was loosing weight but I hated how my arms looked, my waist was slim but the back of my arms were fat and flabby, I don't know if you have been doing weight training with you weight lost, but when I started incorporating weights and strength training with my cardio workouts, Man I started to get the nice toned but and back of the arms, that I was looking for. but adds some push ups and back arm lunges and that exercise were you hold the weigh above your head and lower it back behind you head, those work good too. But congrats on the Size 10 dress HEEEEYYYYYYY:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: THAT IS GREAT!!!! that is were I am at now, My goal is to move to a size 6, there is were I finally want to be. But you are doing great, just incorporate some stregth training too those problem areas and you should get the results that you are looking for. HOLLA

I think this is a case of the self-critical eye... you are seeing yourself through criticism and a mind that has been accustomed to disappointment is filtering what you see. When I look at those pictures, if I hadn't seen your post first and didn't know who was writing it, I would have thought it was just a group of average (read: no weight issues in sight) women and wouldn't know who to point out as the one who had changed herself from a size 16. You looked great and revel in your progress - that's AMAZING!!! :flowerforyou:

I completely agree with strength training and tightening up!! But, as a personal trainer I am compelled to remind that although weights do give tone and definition, cardio to burn fat is the only way to get rid of the bulk that is causing soft or flabby areas. We can't spot-reduce, we just lose the fat as we lose the fat and eventually most of the stubborn areas will be at least a little affected. So hit the weights and make sure you're doing cardio both above 70% of your max heart rate but also between 60-70% for more fat burning.

Often I think we have to change our thinking to focus on what we are happy about, while we work on improvements.
I once lost 82 pounds. from 295 to 213. I can tell you that at 213 I was critical of my appearance and unhappy about not yet being below 200. Over a course of years I shot back up to 270. The criticism is like a poison we ingest, causing doubt and impatience. Many tend to give up. Now I'm at 254 and I think 213 sounds really good.
I still don't like pictures of myself but I know that I am being more critical than I should.

I'm glad I'm getting healthier again.

I am trying to be patient this time around.

I was going to say something along the same lines.
