So I L-O-V-E carbs....like I crave them like people crave sweets! So I wondering if ya'll could give me some suggestions as to which carbs I should be eating so I can try to get some of those healthy carbs into my diet. I don't really know the difference in good carbs or bad carbs or which ones are low glycemic index ones so someone needs to educate me ;-)
Thanks in advance....buddy me if you like!

I LOVE carbs too! But in the past few weeks I have given them up (mostly) and feel so much better!I I still have one slice of wholegrain toast at the weekend for breakfast as a treat. Oh and I have also switched to sweet potatoes rather than white! I would say wholegrain carbs are much nicer than the white ones, I have never ever had white carbs they are too sugary (maybe that's why you crave them?). Always choose wholegrain!
Hope that helps! :flowerforyou:0 -
100% whole grains and fruits and vegetables are good carbs0

complex carbs...the good carbs...are whole grains, fruits and veggies.
simple carbs...the bad carbs...are white pastas, and breads, sugars, starchy stuff.0 -
Yeah carbs are good and good for you, I agree with the other poster : sweet potatoes, brown rice, oatmeal are good complex carbs and broccoli, green beans, asparagus are my fave fibrous carbs. I have some really good literature on the GI...I'll forward it to you when I dig it out0

yep, you just have to give them up and then you will not crave---trust me on this one! Eat veggies as carbs and forget all the low-calorie crap that just makes you want more.0

Use the GOOGLE! Low-GI carbs... There are SO many websites out there with charts and GI indexing available totally free.
Try to eat grains in their most natural, least processed forms. That's a pretty good rule of thumb. Whole grains are key. Grains that are also complete proteins, like quinoa, do double duty and are a great addition to a healthy diet. Eat lots of green and white veg and low-GI fruit, like peaches, plums, grapes, apples, grapefruit, and oranges, pulses, nuts, seeds, plain yogurt and other low-fat dairy, whole grain high fiber unsweetened cereals and sweet potatoes. Round it out with eggs (mostly whites), lean meats, and lentils and legumes for protein.

Don't start thinking carbs are bad. Your body needs a good amount of carbohydrates, protein, and even fat everyday. Of those three basic categories, you need more carbs than anythign else. Any fad diet(s) that tell you to stop eating particular food groups to help boost metabolism or increase fat burn are just in it for the money, not your health.
That being said, focus on the food groups people have already mentioned: oatmeal, whole grain wheats and pastas, green vegetables, fruits, etc. and stay away from white grains, sugars, and starchy foods like potatoes.
Remember, in the end it's all about how many calories you ate, not food groups. Balancing your diet is a great thing to do for your overall health, but weight loss is just about burning more calories than you eat. Every 3,500 deficit is a pound lost.0 -
I eat alot of whole grains when I eat bread....rice I don't eat much of but I try to stomach brown rice. But I LOVE pizza which is my down fall.0

Here's a glycemic load reference. http://www.mendosa.com/gilists.htm
Good carbs are primarily fruits, veggies, and the little bit in nuts/seeds. No grains, no starchy, no legumes(beans) - all hi glycemic load. glycemic index is irrelevant. Watermelon is hi glycemic index but very low glycemic load which is what really drives the insulin repsonse.0 -
I was just reading an article in Oxygen mag that white potatoes are just as good for you as sweet. I don't like sweet potatoes so I will a a plain bpotato with cottage cheese on top.0
