I am originally from south Mississippi, living in Northwest Arkansas. And, yes, I do miss rice and gravy.....BADLY! And crawfish, for all that matters....:)

Rice and gravy, that takes me back, haven't had any since I left home. Dad is from LA and I grew up with it, also gumbo, I still make the best gumbo I have ever had, just can't find good gumbo in a restaurant.
  • LOL, I must say, I'm not really missing it too much, my husband works for a rice dryer so he doesnt really like rice much either, when we do eat it, it comes straight from the dryer so its you know the real stuff, its just like, theres no point when I can cook all kinds of other yummy stuff. Like I did roast the other day and put gravy on my baked potato, which was pretty awesome b/c you still get all the nutrients and stuff.

I havent figured out yet how to account for crawfish, because I am GOING TO EAT SOME!! Idk when, they're still pretty high. lol

I'm not big on gumbo but I loooooove deer chili. Its the roux. Most places roux the hell out of the gumbo. My mom makes awesome gumbo.

From right here in Baton Rouge, I could make and eat some mean rice and gravy. I have eaten some a few times since I started this but I eat it in extreme moderation or use deer meat as a healthier alternative. It is amazing how quickly looking good and feeling good out weighs the need for comfort food. I would miss the treadmill more now than any of the foods I used to think I couldn't live without.

I hear ya, and I know exactly what you mean. I used to be all about fast food until I started on MFP and I feel so much better that I havent given in recently just because I know how bad it makes me feel when I eat anything greasy.

I still have some Jasmin rice that I'll cook sometimes. When that's out I'll buy brown rice. I don't cook it as often as I used to, but I do love beans and rice, and there could be worse things I'm eating. When I make oat groats I'll make a small batch of it and may substitute that for rice when I have it.

And, yes, it's COLD here. I was hoping for "spring" weather for the rest of the winter. It was so beautiful last week. Makes me glad that I joined a gym because I'd rather exercise in a thunderstorm than the cold.
Are any of you doing the warrior dash in March? I'm 35 years old and am finding it impossible to get anyone to do these things with me these days. If you Google Warrior Dash you'll see what it is. It looks like a lot of fun. Maybe we can get a group together?
