Today is day 6! I took a sneak peek at the scale today and am happy with what I saw, and shared with my boyfriend. He knows that I've been using this site as a tool, and I shared with him my inspirations. He said although those are very good reasons to lose weight, he feels that my 28lb. goal is a bit much.(He's not being unsupportive; perhaps he didn't realize that I had gained as much weight as I had. I explained that at my SW I was borderline overweight according to my BMI.) Losing 28lbs will put me at 120lb for my 5'5" frame. Are these goals too lofty? I've always been a little curvy, a little bottom heavy, so I feel like losing 28lbs is going to be a journey, but I think its possible.

Is there anyone in my boat? Or already achieved such results? I really want to be able to do this.

My best friend is 5'5, and weighs in at 120-125lbs. She will be 35 in April. She looks so good. You'll have no problem achievein' that goal - you are 10 years younger than us :) Keep on believin' and prove your bf wrong :) Girl Power...! :flowerforyou:

I think being 5'5'' and wanting to weigh 120 is completely healthy. I always go with the rule of however many inches over 5 feet you are times that by 5 and add 100...that should be right around your "ideal" weight---so for you it would be 125---and 5 less than that in my opinion, is no big deal...if you were shooting for 110, i'd say thats not realistic :) Stick with it and you'll get there! :)

i'm 5'4 and my usual weight is 145- 150, but I unfortunately gained to 177 since moving out with my bf after buying a house. I'm at 172ish right now (haven't weighed for a few days). I'm bottom heavy too. I've been 120 before and looked great. I was xtra small to small in tops and a size 4 or 6 in pants. I don't think you're being unreasonable in your goals. 120 is mine too.

Umm, no. According to the BMI calculator, 120 would give you a BMI of 20, which is on the low end of normal. That being said, I think BMI is a bunch of crap and that you should stop when YOU are happy with your body.

on the BMI chart, 112 is borderline underweight. i dont necessarily know who makes the rules on what is underweight (and overweight for that matter), but thats what i'm basing my knowledge on. ive never been able to stay in the 120's for long. i think my only appearance in the 120s was when i was a freshman in highschool and i was 128 for a week maybe.

i look forward to looking my best :) thank you guys for the input. i think its great that everyone here is so supportive, whether they have 100 lbs or 20 to lose.

and i really wanna say for the record that my bf isn't a jerk, if anything hes the opposite and "loves me the way i am" and all that cutesy stuff :).

    have a great day everyone!!

I AM IN YOUR BOAT! I am 5'5" and currently weigh 157 -- my highest weight EVER. (i blame it on my husband because we got married and since then i have put on 15 pounds! - we traded the gym for the couch -- now im trading back!)

i think my best weight was 130, which is my ultimate goal. So... im with you with wanting to lose 27 lbs!

I think that your best/goal weight should be based one your personal goals -- so i wish you the best in hitting 120!!!!!

    woo!

You can enter your height and goal weight (even select "pear" shape and see what other women look like at that height and weight.
I did it for your goal-5'5" and 120 with "pear" and only one girl showed up. I thought she looked good. If you leave out the pear you get a few more, and I think most of them look great, but I can't say it's unrealistic, You just won't know til you try.

Not unrealistic at al. Tell that B/F of yours to bite his lip..................Maybe he is scared of the look yo will get when you lose the weight.

I always took pride in my wife getting the stares of men..............tell him to have confidence!

Im 5'4" and always felt the best around 130 pounds (when I was younger) as I've always been curvy with a bit extra in my trunk. Now that im in my 40's I've set my goal at 140 . . . but truthfully only you can decide where you want to "end up" when you get there. As we age our shape changes and we carry our weight differently . . . so unfortunately the best answer is . . . you will know when you get there!

once again, he's not being a jerk, i just dont think he realized the weight i was at. once i explained that i was dangerously close to technically being overweight and that 120 is norm for a 5'5" frame he responded with "Hot bod!" lol so i think its something we both look forward to. He is one of my inspirations: "My boyfriend deserves to look at hot bod".

NOT THAT I'M DOING ANY OF THIS FOR HIIM!
Obviously its for me, he just so happens to be my other half.
I feel bad for bringing him into this because I feel like i made him look bad. That wasn't my intention.

i look forward to us both gaining confidence. :)

It really depends on what type of body you have. I am 5'5" and was a figure skater pretty much all my life up until a few years ago, so naturally my legs and butt are bigger. I think that 140 is probably the lowest I can get to, but I am shooting for 135. What usually happens is I get down to 142, then start to tone up and sit around the 145 mark.

I think its always good to put a goal in and strive for it, but being realistic and knowing you may not make it is fine too, its really about how you look at the end of the day :)

I think 120 is fine. I am 5'6 and trying for 125lbs. I gained weight after getting a desk job and not changing my eating habits after college. I went from 100lbs (underweight) to 160lbs in 6yrs. So I would love to be finally a healthy weight.
And ur boyfriend does not sound like a bad guy, my husband said the same thing to me when I said how much I wanted to lose. He had absolutely no idea how much I weighed and said I was beautiful at whatever size.

Wow a lot of the people that they list as pear are more hour glass shaped. there was a girl who was clearly an apple shape. confusing but an interesting site

I know, I think some girls might have a distorted view regarding their shape. Some of them select a few different shapes though...

Its hard to say what your ideal weight should be. We are all so different. I'm 5'4" and currently at 172 lbs. About 8 yrs ago I got down to 142 lbs. I loose all of my weight in my upper body. Skin and bones up top. I only got down to a size 10 in pants but a 3-5 in dresses. I had ppl asking if I was sick or had anorexia. I got discourage & prego in 2003 and gained all the weight back. .Im shooting for a goal weight of 135 but I want major muscle this time. I now have the confidence and love for myself that I was lacking before.

Good luck! We are here to offer support .
