how come sex isn't listed as an exercise?

I'm not trying to be dirty or explicit, but I was just wondering why sex wasn't listed as an exercise on the database. I mean, if cleaning is on here, it would make sense to add it. Plus, I bet our spouses/significant others would enjoy the benefits once we actually realized how many calories we could burn and we add that to our regular exercise routines! :smooched:

because the calorie burn is too low to be worth counting. Most use something else as a code, like "cleaning" or "dancing".
If you were to search the forums, you would find about 50 of these topics already created that could give ya more specific examples from people who count them.0 -
I wondered the same thing, but then once i started friending people I figured they wouldn't want to know every time I had sex. LOL!0

There is another website that will give you that informaiton. Then it can be added into the database.<www.calorielab.com/burned>0

Unless you're a porn star and having sex is your occupation, it's part your normal activity level.
Honestly, I don't understand why someone would log cleaning as an exercise. Do they not routinely clean their home? Ewww!0 -

i didn't really feel like heavily researching on here after i typed in "sex" and nothing was found. I did search the topic titles, but I didn't find much - more like "how do I change my sex from male to female" and something about having a better sex life...0

Idk what you're talking seemichellerun, but when I clean or have sex it's an ACTIVITY
LOL
It's gusto baby....
Anyway, I just use my bodymedia thing to log all of my activity and true calorie burn. So that's my solution. The issue? Armbands that beep when you've accomplished your goals is kind of a mood breaker.0 -
I dont clean like crazy as im single and have no one to impress but I too do not record anything such as cleaning, sex, shoveling snow etc. Unless I actually go out and intentionally exercise I do not record it.0

although I am curious just for giggles how many calories it does burn!!!0

If cleaning is your occupation, you would definitely log it. look up how many calories you burn doing it for a few hours. and how would sex be considered normal activity if there are some people who are more/less active than others, and people that aren't active at all? i don't buy it.0 -
I think there's too much variation in the activity level to be able to log it, unless you're wearing a HRM lol.
I would sort of laugh at the database having all the different speed variations like they do for the treadmill or bike though...
sex, missionary, 3mph
Funny, but it just wouldn't work.0 -
Not sure if I want to see peoples' status update with that listed...
"MFPUserX burned 167 calories doing 3 minutes of 'quickie sex' ".0 -

But isn't it something you routinely do, therefore part of your normal activity level? If not, then well... yeah, sorry to hear that. =P0 -

I found a site that estimates 5 calories burned per minute of sex, so I just calculate and add it in myself. I don't like having to think about how much time we spent, though -- sort of spoils the memory.
@seemichellerun: I think whether it's part of your normal activity level depends on what "normal activity level" you selected when you joined. If you described yourself as active, you've already assumed a moderate level of calories burned each day, and maybe sex wouldn't make a difference. But if you describe yourself as sedentary (which it suggests for most people with desk jobs), the assumption is that you burn very few calories because you spend most of your time sitting, so most "activities" are probably worth recording. Spending 90 seconds to wipe off a counter might not be worth recording, but scrubbing a shower or vacuuming a couple of rooms might be -- I certainly don't do those things every day! And if sex gets your heart rate up (which I hope it does!), that might be worth recording, too.0 -
I tidy every day and don't log it, but trust me, i do more squats, stairs, heavy lifting and balancing on sunday's than I do during my work out routine...I definitely log Sunday house cleaning...0

I really think it is not listed bec/there are really a lot of variables. It depends on so many differant factors like duration, who's doing what for how long, differant positions probably burn at differant rates. I don't think everyone out there is having the exact same kind of sex burning at an average rate. Besides you could have some one really "active" or some one who just lays there and would be probably be considered sedemetary. Too many issues with this activity to bother trying to figure out the calorie burn. I would say after sex, have a banana you probably deserve it? lol!0

because it's part of daily life. and unless you are on top, you arne't burning a ton of calories. i wouldn't be eating calories back for having sex0

WELL SAID!! I was thinking the same thing. I clean my house regularly - I have to because I've got 4 kids running around. But I also deep clean 2 houses a week. This is scrubbing counters, showers, cabinets, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, etc for 4 hours at a time. You bet your @$$ I'm going to log that work!!0 -
According to WebMD -
Sex Burns Calories
Thirty minutes of sex burns 85 calories or more. It may not sound like much, but it adds up: 42 half-hour sessions will burn 3,570 calories, more than enough to lose a pound. Doubling up, you could drop that pound in 21 hour-long sessions.
"Sex is a great mode of exercise," says Patti Britton, PhD, a Los Angeles sexologist and president of the American Association of Sexuality Educators and Therapists. It takes work, from both a physical and psychological perspective, to do it well, she says.

ROFL touche!
I have my activity level set to sedentary and that makes sense for me. I have a six month old son that breastfeeds and uses me as his human crib..so I might as well have a desk job (although I get the breastfeeding calorie burned bonus). Sex doesn't happen everyday for me anymore, sadly, but true. So NO I cannot count that as an 'everyday' activity or normal. If something happens twice a week is that just enrolled into 'normal' activity? IDK.
Re: Cleaning, there is tidying up, washing dishes etc and then there is deep cleaning. When I'm hauling the vacuum cleaner up and down the stairs, or on my knees cleaning floors or running around my house scrubbing...that's definitely more.
In conclusion: I have a clean house, and I have sex not as often as I'd like.0 -
It's not excercise when she does all the work hahahaha.0

maybe we should wear HRM's next time to see LOL0

It depends who's is doing all the work... lmao:happy:0

This is truly disheartening - hopefully everyone is getting their O because the 100 calories wouldn't be worth a GOOD snack0 -
