Hi! I am about ten pounds from my goal weight of 155. Although, I am looking forward to being in the maintenance stage, I would like to know if people continue to lose weight after increasing their calories and being in the maintenance stage and at what rate of losing it? Thank you- Laura

I'm in the same boat you are. I'm getting close and I'm not sure either. My guess is that you might still lose weight slowly especially if you keep up the exercise. Although I'm a little intimidated by how many calories I will need to eat to maintain... I checked my maintenance cal goals would be 1900 and I exercise around 200-700 a day. I wanted to check to see where I'm heading and something I've been doing is manually increasing my calorie goals (I suppose letting MFP do it by decreasing my weight loss rate also works) so that I gradually approach maintenance calories. I think that might be a good way to help control the weight loss and to figure out just what your body needs to hold at a specific weight. I do notice the loss rate decreasing, but the 100 Cal bump I give myself every 2-3 weeks is like a little reward that says "I'm getting closer, I get to eat more!"

  • I found that MFP set my maintenance calories too low as I was still losing. I got a fitbit and was fairly amazed to see how much I actually needed, I adjusted MFP accordingly. I need about 400-1000 more per day than what MFP has set for maintenance. I've been holding my weight steady now for 2 months (using the fitbit data). I like myfitnesspal's active forums and use the recipe builders here along with foods here as the foods on fitbit aren't as robust yet. I enter them onto the fitbit then so that they are in my 'favorites' for easy access.

I suggest once you get to maintenance you figure your BMR and then use the Harris equation for your lifestyle and then set that as your custom MFP. That should get you close. then don't forget to add also any exercise calories on top of that to truly maintain. It may take some tweaking and watching of the scale but you should be able to find a maintenance goal.

Maintenance means steady weight. Just keep nudging calories up and down until your weight stabilizes/
