Is anyone Carb Senstive?

I just realized that after doing a 3 day very low carb/low calorie diet to break through my plateau, and losing almost 5 pounds that I may be carb senstive! When I went back to my normal diet the next day and STILL ate low calories, I jumped back up almost 1 pound which makes me believe that it has something to do with the amount of carbs I am eating. When you don't eat as many carbs, you aren't as hungry, your cravings diminish and you seem to have a bit more energy, I know I did! Although I'm not a fan of low carb eating as I tend to get bored rather quickly, I think that if my body responds better to it and the weight just falls off, then who am I to judge it as being bad. I am going to try and stay with low carbs again starting on saturday after I go grocery shopping and see what happens for about a week an experiment if you will. If I lose more weight, then I will know that I am carb sensitive. It seems that when I count calories and exercise I'm just at a stand still and nothing happenings, it gets very frustrating to sit and sit and sit! I did lose the first 30 pounds rather fast but after that, nothing for almost 3 weeks until the low carb diet came into play. I have dont some research on the internet and have found that there are actually a lot of people just like me. Is anyone else carb sensitive and what have you done about it? Just maybe, you might be too and that is why you are hitting a wall as well?! Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, Thank you.

I don't know for sure if I am or not, but it seems reasonable to me that I might be since I haven't lost anything since starting MFP. I'm weighing in tomorrow after not doing so for almost 2 weeks. If I haven't dropped anything I think I'll try your experiment. Maybe we can share some good food choices that aren't carbs. Good luck! :flowerforyou:0

To be honest, I think you would need to test more than one day of eating low calorie versus the low carb to see if you're sensitive to carbs. I mean eating low carbs for a few days and then eating low cal for one day isn't the best determinant in my opinion.
However, with that being said, if you felt better and more full as you mentioned with more energy, then you may have found what works for you and may be sensitive to carbs. I eat lower carb as well and it's been much better for me overall. And I don't even mean weight loss, but my moods aren't as extreme which was causing issues.0 -

Agreed! But, I have been doing the low- cal thing for weeks now and I have been at a stand still, no loses, just staying the same. Then, I do the low-carb diet for only 3 days and whammo, I lose 5 pounds! It's hard not to think it's not the carbs?! When I went back to eating low-cal the next day, I felt so hungry and tired and just plain out of it I was so scared I was going to overeat but managed not to. I'm still doing low-cal today so by tomorrow I should know a little more but I believe that for years now carbs have played a very negative role in my life but for some reason it didn't don on me until just now. My mother believes that she too is carb sensitive. If this is the case then I will be so happey to have found something that works for me, the hard part is finding that magic number?! I will have to expirement with it and hopefully it can be found. Thank you for your input. I appreciate hearing all sides!0 -

I totally missed the context that you were doing low cal and then did low carb. duh that makes more sense. sorry about that
I completely agree with everything you said and it's great you're finding out what works for you (and perhaps your mom too!). I say go for it. I don't do extreme 20g low because I like to eat my veggies and occasional frozen berries in cottage cheese, but I have found lower carb to work for me too. And if it works for you and makes you happy, then I say go for it. Not that I'm saying you're doing 20g low, but everyone just assumes that and there's many people on here who get huffy about people eating lower carb diets.
Just remember that when doing lower carbs, it's okay to have fat. I have my percentages set at 20/40/40 for carb/fat/protein.0 -
I do some low carbing. Not everyday but much lower than what mfp sets my carbs to be. I like to be around 60 carbs a day but I don't always come in at that. I'm careful about where the carbs come from that I do eat, pasta, potatoes, breads...I don't eat much of at all. I had stalled for a month and finally cut down the carbs and then lost about 10 lbs in a month. I can't maintain as low of a carb count 40-60 a day as it takes for me to loose like that but I do the best that I can.0

At least I know I'm not crazy!...LOL I just couldn't seem to figure out why I wasn't losing and here I was doing everything right! It gets so frustrating to be at a stand still after all your hard work and no pay off. I have decided that this time I will not give up no matter what happens, I just needed to find what works. I have a long ways to go and I do need to keep moving steadily along so as not to get discouraged and start slacking. I was just glad to see that while doing some research on carb senstivity that there are other people who feel the same and have similiar experiences! It's such a relief to know what is wrong and how I can fix it so that I can move forward towards my goal. I'm hoping to get away with a middle range of carbs as I do love my breads, pastas, rices and other startches. While doing the 3 day protein diet I went from eating around 7 carbs a day and then back up to 160 on my low cal diet, what a difference and it seems it did make a difference in my weight loss and gains and breaking my plateau.
Danlyn, I would love to share low-carb food choices and ideals with you and whoever else is interested in trying it out. What have we got to lose except hopefully weight, right?!
Good luck everyone! Friend me if you like and I will keep you posted on my progress and you can do the same by keeping me posted. I would love to hear how it works for you.0 -
I know that I am. I did very well on the Atkins diet back in the day, but eating all those high fat foods just wasn't healthy. I've read Eat for Your Blood Type (I'm Type O) and it says that I do best with more lean meats and other proteins. I've read Master Your Metabolism by jillian Michaels. In her book there is a test to see if you are a fast oxidizer or slow oxidizer. Again, I am a fast oxidizer and they thrive on lean meats, nuts and low carbs. Bottom line with all of these ideologies, I do best and lose fat on low carb eating.0

I think I'm carb sensitive and I really don't have a good handle on it yet! I feel better eating more fat/protein but in my head, I still want to be "low-fat." A lot of days I end up going over on fat, but still not getting enough protein. If anyone has had success eating low carb/low fat, I would love to befriend you so I can get some ideas!0
