how can I resist junk food?

I'm new to this website, so please bear with me here lol. But I've recently started the 30 day shred workout with Jillian Michaels, because I'm desperate to lose weight. The only problem I'm having is eating right. I don't know how to stay on track with eating healthy and not pig out on cookies, chips, juice, etc. Do any of you have any tips on how to resist sweets and junk food, and to eat healthier so I can get maximun results from my workout? Please and thank you

Keep healthy snacks around ALL the time & get rid of junk food @ home. I keep apples & oranges everywhere...make sure it's fruit or veggies you like. I indulge with sugar free jello (10 calories) or their chocolate mousse or dulce de leche pudding (60 calories) and I have some adzuki bean chips (sound nasty but are Really good) they have about 150 cals, which is good for 20 chips. But just be careful to snack responsibly & have a plan for your meals...it's definitely helped me.0

WELCOME......i still have my junk food...BUT healthier options, like baked potato chips, 100 calorie packs of snack items like cookies and such....but most important...pay attention to portion size and try to save those indulgences as rewards....GOOD LUCK!! THERE IS A LOT OF SUPPORT HERE0

I'm the kind of person that can't buy that food in the first place. It's a lot harder to snack on food you don't have at home. Stock up on lean meats, fruits, and veggies. Have a couple days a week where you treat yourself to your favorite junk food. Just talk yourself into a single serving size. Also, once you lose a pound or two it becomes a lot easier to say no to bad food. You won't want to ruin your progress! Good luck!!!0

I used to get terrible sugar cravings...
I dont keep any junk in my house. If I need chocolate, I will have some trail mix or a high fiber granola bar. If you like salt, pita chips and hummus are a good option.
Edited to say that I lied! I do actually have chocolate kisses/rolos left over from christmas. But because I have tried to wean myself off sugar, I only feel the need to eat a couple instead of a whole bag.0 -
Yeah the easiest way to resist it is not have it around in the first place. Buy a big bag of almonds, portion it out as soon as it comes in the house into 1 ounce portions and then when you're feeling snacky grab some. I also pop a big batch of popcorn once a week and put about a cup into a container, with a bit of choice for spices, paprika... curry.... just something to change the taste so it's "not the same ol' same ol'"
IF you do bring some of the junk into the house portion it out too, it's way too easy to open a big bag of chips and mindlessly snack until empty but if you portion it out into the 10 or whatever "servings" it actually makes when the portion container is gone, don't get another. Easiest to do this when the stuff comes in the house in the first place. Rather than saying you'll portion it when you open it (when you're hungry)....0 -

#3. I quit processed sugar and fake sugar- I only use Honey, Maple syrup and Agave . that way I just say no to junk- If I really need something sweet I have to make it my self. Good luck.0 -

Sweets, cookies and other rewards & comforts are just like any other addictive substances. If this question was about cigarettes the answers would be more straightforward I believe. FIRST STEP is to realize is that you are not weak in character or anything like that. This things contain loads of sugar and fat, which is what the body likes most of all in the world i.e you will become addicted superfast. Every little setback in your ordinary life will give you an excuse to comfort yourself with sweets and cookies, ice cream etc - just like have a smoke or a drink after a long hard day with arrogant customers and non understanding boss
SECOND STEP is of course getting rid of all these things, you will not be able to resist otherwise.
THIRD STEP is to recognize the craving feelings of needing these substances when they arrive, and they do arrive and will try to trick you in believing that you need them. Just don't give in and it will pass! The physical dependance of these things goes away fast, just a few weeks. Afterwards its the psyhological "need". That one takes time. Personally I believe that it never goes away, it just becomes more and more easy to deal with. But don't worry about that part, don't even try to imagine it, you will probably just make it harder. One day at a time, you'll make it! Just give it a few weeks and make a decision then do you feel better or worse?

I think everyone has given really good advice.
I have been quite the junk food and sugar addict until recently. Under my trainers instructions junk food is banned and anything with a sugar is a no no. Yes I have the occasional treat and for me that is in the form of a mocha, one a day, max. Like someone else mentioned I use honey for flavouring or a sweet kick. Especially on my porridge. Now I prefer it to the brown sugar I used to heap on!
I have a good portion of protein and carbs, eat plenty of fruit and veges and as also has been suggested, keep up on the water intake. You may not be aware, thirst is often mistaken for hunger.
Biggest thing to help though, don't buy it in the first place.
I'm where I'm at after only a couple of weeks. The cravings do pass. You just need to learn what triggers them and have your arsenal of tricks to defeat them. You can do it!0 -
I just posted this on another site, but here goes again.
I know this sounds crazy, but when I crave sweets, I eat a couple of radishes. I know CRAZY!
There is something about the crunch and the strong flavor (I do like them), that my craving for sweets is gone. Maybe because my taste buds are dead...lol0 -

I go with gum. the stuff the advertise on the biggest loser has some good flavors, the brand being Extra :dessert flavored gums, or the fruit sensations are great as well, my fav is sweet tropical0

good tips. basically throw out the junk or give it to friends or a food pantry. plan your meals and snacks ahead of time. make a game of foods you can have, rather than focusing on what you can't. and take baby steps at first, nothing drastic. it's not an instant success that works. it's gradually changing habits and reinforcing so they become your new lifestyle. it is not easy and you have to be stubborn about going for it. but your eating patterns will change and you will not miss or crave the old junk. use each day as a new opportunity and good luck!0

I am working through this problem..junk food is very hard to resist at first because our bodies are addicted to it. I am starting on Monday to try to cut out all preservatives and such out of my diet..sort of a body rehab I guess. My sister did this and she said that it gets easier after a few weeks. Surround yourself with a lot of healthy snacks.0

snacks to you was like fast food to me. its an addiction and i cut it cold turkey. I slipped once and felt horrible for it. like i let myself down. a few days ago i went into a burger king with a friend and ordered NOTHING! but it took me since January 1 to get to that level. sooo try to ween yourself off drastically and give yourself a treat now and then so you don't go nuts and binge.
