I used South Beach to get started dieting. What it did for me is eliminate simple sugars and BAD breads which was huge for me. Since then I try and eat as much or more protein Kcal as carbs. I also eat at least 25-30g of fiber a day which is the trick for me.0

Low carb diets work...sort of.
A few years back I was 268 lbs at 5'10" I went on a diet very similar to South Beach and lost a ton of weight (around 80 lbs). That diet was unsustainable for me and when I stopped it weight crept back till I was 10 lbs shy of my original weight.
This time around all I did was exercise and track calories through this website. I don't have much problem following this lifestyle and love the progress I have made. Do yourself a favor and just watch the calories. Southbeach, Atkins, etc are not lifestyles they are diets. Learn to eat healthy and watch your calories and you will do great.
Eat 5 times a day, avoid filling up on bread and pasta, eat your fruits and vegetables. After using this site for a while you will figure out if certain foods are worth the calories and you'll avoid them like the plague.
Either way good luck on your weight loss0 -
I took it a step further and did Primal Blueprint. I have lost 55 on it so far. It allows the fruit from the beginning and doesn't add back in grains much at all. He suggests an 80-20 compliance to the diet since he factors in the real world and human nature so It comes out to eating grain or potatoes at 2-3 meals per week max. His website is free just search Primal Blueprint and you'll find it. Good Luck!:flowerforyou:0

absolutely. Doc says it's a good way to "jumpstart" my weight loss so one day down and the vege quiches are in the oven now. i like that i can make recipes and they are for more than one day. i will freeze some breakfast items so I don't freak out on the mornings when i'm rushing to get out of the house.0

Good luck with SBD. I've never tried it, but I have the book. I pulled it out this week because I wanted to do a week without grains and needed some ideas for a high protein breakfast - I normally eat a cup of oatmeal fortified with ground flax seed.
I find too many carbs don't work for me, so I'm working on trying to find the right balance between a higher protein/ lower carb, sustainable plan.0
