Growing up I was always, "the big one" and my sister, who is one year younger, "so cute and tiny". Even in High School she could wear the mini skirts and eat cheeseburgers. Maybe she was a later bloomer... but with college also came her hips..and with her two children a bit more junk in her trunk. Finally we had something in common. We could wear the same clothes!! WOW amazing to have two wardrobes..we could talk about wanting to lose weight togeter. Finally I didnt feel so alone. Last year we even ran a 10k together. But over the winter we both fell out of routine and we both paid the price. But then a funny thing happened..with in a matter of a month I gained another five pounds..about the same time my sister magically lost. At 5'5 I went up to 158 pounds and she, at 5'3 is now 143. Im tight in my size 13's and her size 10's are big. I have been working out 5x a week and lifting weights and eating 1200 calories of healthy foods. She is not exercising..drinking only coffee for breakfast..says she is never too hungry and really doesnt eat too much lunch but does snack at work and then has a carefree dinner. I don't get it!!?? I once again feel "like the big one" No my sister is not REALLY a *****.. I love her dearly she is also my best friend..but can anyone explain this??

Are you eating your exercise calories? If you are eating 1200 calories, but burning off a lot of that, your body is not getting enough calories to survive on. Monitor your exercise calories and eat most of them back. Then see what happens. I bet you'll start losing the pounds. Good luck!!

I would love to explain it but can't I posted something similar about how my husband decided to join this site and in one week drops what took me a month to lose he eats what he wants while I have to be strict on myself he doesn't exercise I do at least an hour most days. all I can say is stick at it and focus on yourself and your goals and you will achieve them and you will have 2 wardrobes again just size 6/8 ones x ( not too sure on your sizes as in UK they go up in 2's)
  • I totally understand. I have a sister 2 years younger than me who is 5' 5" and I'm 5' 7". She's always snacking during the day and eats one big meal with her fiance at night and never works out. She bought a size 4 wedding dress and has to worry about getting it taken in before her wedding this summer. It took me years to realize we have genes from different sides of the family. She got the petite little frame from my dad's side with the crazy metabolism and I got the average frame that builds muscle and stores fat around the stomach and hips from mom's side. So after years of hating her for being so tiny, I've come to the realization that if I can't be skinnier than her, at least I can have the rocking toned body, especially arms!! So that's what I'm working on for all the wedding pictures this summer. She can have the tiny little waist and look like a model in her wedding dress. But I'll be the sister who's rocking the strapless dress and has great arm definition!! Plus, the quote Jillian Michaels, "Your arms the are only part of your body that's naked in from of strangers." haha So I hope that's motivating!!!
  • Sounds like she's on drugs.

Drs will tell you that theres no such thing as a high metabolic rate or if there is its only a few calories difference but I know thats not correct. 2 daughters, same activities, same meals, one was slightly chunky the other was skinny as a rake. And then theres me and my mate, she ate for England, Scotland Wales and Ireland and drove everywhere. I ate sensible portions and walked everywhere...she couldn't put on weight (5ft5 81/2 stone) and I couldn't shift it. She used to joke that the more she ate the more I put on!

I guess its luck of the draw

I have a friend who is thin, husband is thin and all the children are thin except for 1 a boy. I doubt he's eating anything different than the rest of his family, he just has a different metabolism. I've known people all my life that can eat *anything* and stay as thin as rails, yet there We are in the MFP family, that doesn't seem to be us...(although there are some formerly with that kind of metabolism).

Another thing that seems to be a myth is the Asian skinny genes. While many Asians have that, and can eat ANYTHING, literally, I've seen the girls and boys eat literally tons of sugar etc that at that age I would have been fat, there are some Asians that don't get the magic Asian skinny genes genetics.

So it just depends on how your made up.

As far as cals, I'm wondering if you are feeling "hungry", because if you are than 1200 might not be good for you, and your body might be going into SM (starvation mode). Again, each body is different but I am finding that for *me* staying in the 1300-1500 mode gets me in the weight loss area. You may possibly want to up your cals to 1350, 1450, and add in exercise a few days a week - I am doing it 4x per week.

What I mean is, YOU are doing everything right! Keep plugging along, and eat your exercise calories. I feel your pain, trust me. It sounds like she is doing something unhealthy, or unnatural. Concentrate on YOU. Think about how good it feels to exercise and to eat healthily. I eat ever few hours! Pictrue a healther, stronger YOU. :flowerforyou: You can do it!

Thanks I need the pick me up. Pretty much most days I feel FULL and struggle to eat all of the 1200 calories.. I mean is it possible to need less? Off subject.. but I went to a weight loss class last yr and the instuctor said .. dont count calories.. your body will tell you when to eat and when its done eating. She said sometimes she only eats 1/2 pck of oatmeal in the morning.. she also taugh aerobics and was then.. i bet she eats less then 1200.. IDK
