I am having trouble staying motivated. I started out with a bang...and then started weighing daily, and it's just causing frustration. I knew I never should have bought that scale. Its strange how at one minute you feel on top of the world, and the next you catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror and look bloated and disgusting. Wish I had some friends on here to keep me motivated...it's hard to do it all alone.

I have found that the scale can tell a different story each day - lol - however they recommend that you only weigh yourself every week or two... which is so hard to do! Add me as a friend :-) if you'd like.0

When I feel demotivated I either come on here and open up the success stories, or I go on Skinny Taste and look at healthy recipes! Seeing so many delicious, low-fat, low-calorie recipes reminds me that just because I'm dieting doesn't mean I'm giving up the foods I like, and also gives me ideas for upcoming meals.0

you do have friends on here..you just don't know them yet:) Feel free to add me...for some motivation, I tell everyone just read one of the success stories here each day...that helps...good luck! Don't give up, we all have those days...:flowerforyou:

Someone once quite rightly said to me..."If you weighed your food as much as you weigh yourself..you would not need to lose weight!!!"...ditch the scales except for a once weekly weigh in..they don't help...its your eating & exercise that help.0

The scale is evil . It gives me nightmares ! You should weigh yourself only once a week . Ask someone to hide the scale away that way you wouldn't be tempted to weigh yourself every 5 minutes. Motivation yes i know we all can't be 100 percent motivated everyday but we are here to keep each other motivated and we do a pretty good job . everyone here is absolutely fantastic , they encourage you motivate you points out your mistake. I have met some amazingly fabulous people here and by the way i'm just 2 weeks old in here . You can do it too !0

I've said it before, the scale is not the proper way of verifying if you're workout and diet is paying off.
1- Body fluids make a HUGE difference believe it or not.
2- If muscle mass is increasing while you lose body fat, the scale won't be able to tell the difference.
Use measurements instead, photos in specific poses. That's the way I do it, and it works for me. Like a MFP friend mentioned, you don't buy clothes based on your weight, but on your size.0 -
My first month I lost a lot of weight. My second month I lost a lot less weight, but I was doing the same thing! So i was super frustrated, but you know what? that's the way it goes. you lose a lot of weight at first, and then you lose more subsequently over more time. Then I hit a plateau and for two weeks I was stuck, but I kept doing the right thing and next thing ya know, I'm dropping weight again! So don't give up, it's only a matter of time and it will pick up (I mean the weight will drop off) again. Just keep doing the right thing, you will see the weight come off again.0

I know just how you feel! i am in that place right now!!! Add me if you like!0

If you are weighing each day, its that which is causing your frustration- not the scale! If you want to keep weighing each day, remember not to compare each day with the ones surrounding it- compare to the week prior- Mondays to Mondays, and so on. There are so many variables day to day that you really won't see a consistent reading. But if you look at numbers week to week, you will be able to see a discernable downward trend, even when you have blip days. Yesterday my WI was 144.4 which was awesome, but today its 146.2- I knew this was likely because Sat's after my WI I like to have my splurge meal- so even though I was within my cals, I had a bloaty day today. By Wed I will be evened out again. You just have to be conscious of the fact that you don't have a weight, you have a weight range. And as long as that highest number is going down too, you are doing alright!0

set yourself some small mini goals.
Definitely stay off the scale!!! If you make good healthy choices every day and log it in MFP and exercise, you have to have peace within yourself to know you are doing everything right!0 -
I know most of the people on here have already said it, but seriously listen to them - DITCH THE SCALE. Not permanently, obviously, but only do once a week/two week weigh-ins. It was hard for me to let go, too. Every time I go to the gym, I go for an hour and whenever I wake up the next morning, I want to run to that scale to see if I lost any weight. Stop. You're harming yourself more than you're helping yourself. Stay on track with your fitnesspal account as far as calories and exercising goes. It will be hard, I know, but you need to realize you're not going to even notice you've lost weight immediately, and neither is the scale.
If you feel that you MUST weigh yourself every day, then you need to make sure you do it at the same TIME every day. Your weight fluxuates through out the day, and sources say that you always weight more at night than in the morning.
I stay motivated through my blog. whenever I'm frustrated and I just need to vent, I take it out on the blog, and I immediately feel better. Not to mention, I bought my goal size swimsuit to hang in my room to keep me going. Don't give up!! We're all here for you.
I added you as a friend, let's keep this thing going together!

Unless you have a scale like mine that measures body fat %. If weighing yourself every day doesn't help you, stop it. For me it is a help, but I don't feel defeated when it goes up a little, because I know that just drinking a 16oz glass or water will add a pound to my weight, not to mention the food in my belly digesting. Again, if the scale is a problem for you switch to another way to measure progress that you find encouraging.0 -

In that case you wouldn't be frustrated because if you see your body fat % going down and your weight going up, you'll know is muscle what's increasing. Personally my goal is not to lose weight, but to replace fat with muscle, so I'm not really worried about the scale at all0 -
I know how you feel. I hate my scale. I lost a bit when I started, but now I have been holding steady. If I didn't have my measurements to see that I am loosing I would be so discuraged. So I know all the hard work is paying off. I also have my body composition numbers, I will get to take them again in about a month, I know I will see an increase in lean mass and a decrease in fat mass, even if the scale doesn't change a bit. Once I have the muscles needed to do what I am doing I know I will start to see the scale fall. While it isn't true that muscle is heavier than fat, it does take up less space than fat, so as I loose fat at the same rate I gain muscle there is no change on the scale, but there are big changes in my measurements. So far I have lost 7 inches around my waist and 5 inches around my hips!
My biggest "AHA" moment came when I realized that diet alone will make me loose weight because I wouldn't gain muscle so the scale sees the difference, diet and exersize will make me loose fat and gain muscle, which the scale can't see because it is the same mass. Eventually the scale will see it but I was so unfit, that I have a lot of muscle to gain.
If you take your measurements I am sure you will start to see a difference. I know it has kept me motivated!
Good luck, and if you need a friend on here, you can add me.0 -
Sometimes I turn on a show like "heavy" and that Really Motivates me!!!0
