I use Bluebonnet soy protein shake powder. It's organic, has no genetically modified ingredients, no artificial sweeteners and still tastes good.
  • I love Ladybird- designed for woman wanting results.

I always check the ingredient list, because there are different "grades" so to speak of where the protein comes from. Typically the cheap-o brands from Wal-Mart like Body Fortress (which tastes terrible, btw) come from cheap sources of protein that are not as useful to the body as pure whey isolate.

And be sure to look at sugar content as well! A lot of companies realize that their product doesn't taste great, so they load up on sugar to change that.

I prefer any of the ones that come from Max Muscle or the vanilla and chocolate kinds from Beachbody.
  • Soy is not good protein, you need something from Whey IMO. I use Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard, 100% Whey. Body Fortress has a Whey Isolate which is actually pretty great protein all things considered.
  • I have always preferred to make my own

    Scoop of Vanilla Protein Powder
    1/2 C Silk Almond Milk
    1/2 C light vanilla yogurt
1 banana (or fruit of your choice)

    About 250-300 KCal

Remember this is a meal replacement

I agree with this post. Have a look at some reviews online first and don't forget to look at the nutrition label for what you're getting :)

I use Muscle Mik Light, Strawberry flavor on the days I do weights. It takes really good and is mixed with cold water. Good luck to you.

How often should you have a protein shake? How much protein should you have? Is it ok to go over the default protein number? Do you only have it on days you do weights?

I totally agree. Also, be mindful of the calorie content. Some products are loaded with sugar and calories. Shakes are best used after a workout, when your on the run. Otherwise its best to get your protein source from lean meats or flax, and hemp seeds because its natural.
  • yes! yes! gold standard seem the best i think, mixes good and taste decent. lol i dont know what your goals are but i take three a day but tring to build muscle.
  • I have used the GNC Total Lean - Lean Shakes. They're more of a meal replacement, of course, and the first set only had 9 grams of protein at 180 calories and 2 grams of fat. They now have new flavors with 25 grams of protein, but they're about ten bucks more expensive than the ones with 9 g. of protein. They also have the 4 pack of individual bottles and a package of 12 individual packets. I've also tried the Muscle Milk and the GNC Pro Performance 100% Whey Protein, and I just couldn't stomach those. The taste and texture were terrible. Maybe another flavor or something would have helped, but ick. I liked the Lean Shakes because they weren't chalky and gritty, and the taste wasn't medicine-like. However, they're an oat-based mix so the texture is thicker. Idk if that's a deal-breaker for you or not. I didn't mind it, and it was filling. I also liked to add fruit (e.g. bananas or strawberries) to the chocolate for a little extra oomph. If it's not enough for a meal replacement, I thought it made a pretty good post-workout snack at least. I hope this helps somehow. Good luck!

I got the Protein x - from muscle milk makers

it says pure , isolated & concentrated milk protein -
    i like the ingridients- and the supplement facts- for 1 scoop it's 130 kcl - 2 g fat, 3 g carbs, 1 g sugar and 26 g protein !
    this is great

i make it myself - almond milk and 1/2 banana - 1 tbsp pb- that's almost a meal replacement

depends on your kcl daily intake - my is very low 1250 kcl a day- but my trainer has told me to take it at least once a day ( i work out about 5-6x a week ) .. and since i did start to take it regularly - i'm less hungry- and i take less carbs in

    don't take the cheap stuff..
i got this one at costco for 40 servings it was almost 30 $
they had another one from the same brand- packed in a bag- 80 servings - 28 $ ..
but when i checked the ingridients it had missed the important thing called- casein- i heared that's the important part for weight loss
since i wasn't sure- i got the more expensive thing since i believe you get what you pay for

    good luck
