Tell me..is sushi good or bad? what are the health benefits from it? also what kinds are the best tasting?

I'd love an answer to this also. I really like California rolls, and my husband enjoys Crunchy Shrimp rolls. We were having this discussion yesterday, so I'm really anxious to see what others have to say!0

Sushi is my very favorite food, but I eat sashimi. I used to love the rolls, but the rice can really add the calories. Also stay away from tempura - fancy word for fried!0

I make the California rolls- imitation crab, avacado, cucumber and rice. The imitation crab will have a lot of sodium so don't too much, maybe just a whole roll. The soy sauce is high in sodium too, so try to stick with the low sodium soy sauce if they have it.
The tempura sushi are pretty good too.0 -
it all depends what you put into the sushi and on top of it? I'm from HI so I eat almost all of it. If you are not a seafood type of girl then I would not reccommend it. Most grocery stores have a sushi section. ask them for help in choosing one. I would start the the Vietnamese chicken roll or the avacadd roll. Very fresh and light!0

I think in moderation sushi is just fine. The soy sauce is the killer. Best tasting really varies from person to person. I like tuna rolls and tuna sashimi but I also like eel rolls and california rolls.0

Very good so long as you stay away from the ones with fried meat, and certain other cooked ones with heavy sauces. The uncooked ones are great. You got your fish, rice, and some veggies all together. I love rolls like the rainbow which has sashimi drapped over each piece or others like the sashimi roll here which is raw and wrapped in cucumber rather than rice. Just go easy on the sauce. ;P0

The nigiri sushi or sashimi is protein dense and high in Omega Fatty oils. The amount of rice in sushi is not that significant unless you are just eating too much sushi overall.
A lot of the sushi rolls that some people like are not as good for you. Stuff like California Rolls, Deep Fried Shrimp Rolls, Oregon Rolls. basically, the stuff that "people who don't really like sushi but like having sushi" eat.0 -
I agree with spicy tuna. It's my favourite! Sushi is generally healthy, but stay away from anything that has tampura in it (fried batter) as it will increase your calorie intake. Also, if you're into it (I'm not), sashimi is a good option - it's raw fish without rice or seaweed.0

Sushi is my most favorite thing in the world. I eat it at least once a week.
Health benefits are endless, especially if you don't get anything fried (such as tempura or any of the deep fried rolls). Fish has
a lot of Omega-3 Fats which reduces inflammation in our bodies that is said to be linked to many health problems(heart disease, diabetes, stroke, etc.)
I noticed a HUGE difference in my hair and skin when I started eating
salmon regularly. It gave my body back the nutrients I was losing with weight loss, so I would definitely recommend it anyone.0 -
No food is 'good' or 'bad'. Remember, moderation is the key to a healthy diet. However there's some tips to keep your sushi choices as healthy as possible.
-choose brown rice over white if possible
-stay away from 'tempura', which is deep fried
-watch consumption of added fats such as cream cheese or mayonaisse.
-soy sauce has a ton of sodium. its really a killer. Instead use low-sodium soy sauce or ginger for flavor.
-choose rolls with fresh fruit and/or vegetables0 -
I make my own Sushi with smoked Chicken, avo, carrot, and white rice. It is 411 for an entire roll. So not a low cal meal, but not really high either. And it tastes so good sometimes it is worth it!0

Sticky rice = not a good thing to put in your mouth. Fish and Seafood, excellent for your health. I pick out the bad stuff and eat the good.0

I adore vegetable rolls... The local place has a forest roll (portobello mushroom, avocado, carrots, cucumber, spring onion). Yumm...
Also, my prior favorite (different restaurant, 6 hours away) had a roll with almond butter, broccoli, carrots, and some other vegetables...brown rice. So good.)
In terms of low cal: sashimi (raw fish on rice pillow), then rolls without sauces or tempura coated bits.... cucumber salad is a good bet (though it will have sugar in it).0 -
Rolls are calorie dense because of the rice. Rolls also can have mayo based sauces or crispy tempura fried things. Those huge specialty rolls with everything under the sun on them are no no's.
Stick to nigiri or sashimi if you are looking to do lower calorie sushi - just pick the fishes that you like and don't be afraid to try some new stuff too.
Health benefit wise - you are getting omega 3's and unsaturated fat - the good stuff, as well as a good dose of protein.0 -

So true, and Sashimi may seem intimidating, but its absolutely amazing, and lower in calories than sushi.0 -

But overall--would you say that sushi is a good choice for dinner? I looked up different sushi types and at most i saw maybe 470 cals for an entire roll. That's less than most meals I eat. So i'd say it's a go right?0
