Chicken question!

Options
Hi everyone!

I feel like I should know the answer to the question I'm about to ask, considering it's a major part of my diet! BUT, I need to know how many calories/fat are in a 4oz COOKED chicken breast. I weigh my chicken after it's cooked...and I eat 4oz COOKED. I bake it, or stovetop cook it without any ingredients that would add calories. I've heard anything from 80-300 cals. I know both of those extremes are incorrect, but what is with varying calories? I don't get it. I've googled and yahoo'd and bing'd and searched, and I don't feel like I can get a straight answer. I use 120 cals per 4oz (COOKED) as my typical input on my diary, but I need a better answer. Is is maybe 150? 180? :ohwell:

I eat chicken almost EVERYDAY, so it's important for me to calculate correctly.

Any input is majorly appreciated!

Every chicken product I have ever bought (raw, uncooked, no flavor) has been 120-130 cals for 4 oz. It actually gives the calories on the nutrition label. :)

Ive been putting 150cals on mine as that seemed the average... but on this site http://www.fatsecret.com/calories-nutrition/generic/chicken-breast-skin-not-eaten?portionid=4841&portionamount=1.000 it says 46 per 1oz so for 4 ozs it would be 184... Not sure if thats right or not however so much conflicting info!!

check out calorieking.com for an answer. If I am eatting something and I don't know the exact calories, I always use the "quick calories" and add some extra JUST in case. better to be under then over. Hope this helps :)

120 is accurate. It's the brand and amount of sodium I'd question!

With chicken breast I would say that cooked calories are about the same as uncooked since there is no disernable fat in the breast meat. And if your chicken is boiled or cooked with out fat then you should be able to use the 120- 130 cal numer/

Why not weigh it before you cook it so you know how many calories are going into the pan then weigh it after it's cooked. It's still going to have the same number of calories but will weigh a little less. For example, if 1 oz uncooked = 50 calories and that 1 oz weighs 1/2 oz after cooking then that 1/2 oz still has 50 calories. Make sense?
