same caloric intake after weigh in?

I was hoping someone could explain this to me. When we sign up for MFP, it gives you a daily caloric intake that you need to meet. As we lose weight, shouldn't that number drop? Since we don't need as many calories when we are lighter?
So for example, if I am eating 2000 calories to start and then lose 20 pds, shouldn't that daily calorie number go down?
Thanks for any help!

I noticed that when I was logging my weight it would never drop so I just went to change goals and re-clicked on everything and it changed. It normally doesn't change much (maybe 10 or 20 cals). Good luck!0

Yeah, it should be going down. Mine went down automatically... Maybe its once you hit a certain weight it goes down because at the weight you are at, eating that much still leaves you with a deficit??0

I have heard that once you lose 10 pounds, MFP asks if you would like to adjust your caloric intake. I dont know for sure because I haven't gotten there yet!0

If you visit your settings, the calorie amount will drop automatically. Bittersweet moment...mine have dropped TWICE.0

If you are already at 1200 calories a day, it will not drop lower.
Every full 10 pounds you lose, it should ask you if you want to adjust your calorie setting. You can say yes or no. It will not drop below 1200 calories a day ever.0 -
The auto change is at 10lbs. When you put your weight in then it will ask you if you want to update your calorie intake. If you select yes it will change.
If you want to change it before then go to your goals and update your weight there. Once you save that your calories will update on the spot.

Woot! That's awesome!0 -
Mine dropped automatically when I hit a certain number of pounds. It did give me the option to 'ask again in another 10 pounds'. I changed the goal back because I am not able to handle that drop yet but I will accept the suggestion next time.0
