As a result of boredom setting in with the foods I normally eat, I'd love to know what you normally purchase for your weekly grocery trip. What's always in your shopping cart? Looking for some flavor in my life

  • Well, this seems like fun. My cart has changed A LOT in the last couple of months. Where there used to be frozen Tombstone pizzas --aptly named, really-- there are now Lean Cuisines and bags of frozen veggies-lots of veggies. I no longer buy prepackaged lunch meat, but go to the deli instead and have it sliced fresh to avoid the sodium overload, and to avoid nitrites and nitrates. My soda selection is Fresca and/or Coke Zero, and I love them both. My bread has changed from white to whole-grain, high fiber, whole-wheat, etc.

For snacks I have packaged whole wheat sandwich crackers, rice cakes, salad, pretzels, and occasionally kettle cooked or baked chips. I also have a selection of fruits to snack on, the best of which are the California Cuties (mandarin oranges). They peel easy and are sooooo yummy.

My seasonings have changed as well. Instead of the Morton table salt I buy McCormick seal salt grinder, and I use it pretty sparingly. I've thrown out or given away a lot of seasoning because of excess sodium in them, and now only buy seasoning that says "no salt added".

I buy low-fat or fat-free milk instead of whole milk like I once did. I make sure it has vitamin D in it though! My orange juice has changed to Simply Orange which is healthier than Tropicana, Dole, etc--same with apple juice. The Simply juices cost a bit more, but are worth it....same with deli meat.

Well, that's a pretty good start on what my shopping cart usually looks like. :)
