more cardio?

Ok kids so I've been stuck at this same spot for quite some time now and although I'm losing inches I'm bummed at the scale. I started P90X about 6 weeks ago and since then the scale hasn't budged at all. Here's what I am thinking and lets see who agrees or doesn't.
I'm thinking I need more cardio in my life. What do y'all think? I'm thinking I'm going to lay off of the P90X maybe do the arms/legs/ab workouts and then try and get more cardio in at the gym.
Ok all you Beachbody people don't yell at me. But I have to tell you that seriously I think everytime I do that core workout I strain my interior oblique and it hurts so much for days after I can't get into the workout groove. It's those dang hip raises. My R shoulder is very weak from an accident 3 years ago and I just have a hard time.

I think you are making amazing progress and losing inches while your weight remains the same is a good sign that you are building muscle, which will increase your metabolism. Don't let the scale defeat you. We allow those damn numbers to have too much power in our lives. But if you want to change up your routine it might get the scale moving. And be careful not to overdo ... you don't need to hurt yourself to be successful with exercise.0

I've heard P90X is not good for weight loss. I would bump up the cardio and lay off the P90X.
P90X is for more toning, muscle building etc.0 -
I say yes!
the thing about P90X is that its great and all but its a dvd with the same workouts... You need to add something in there that you can do thats different and provides you with more variety. Perfect solution: cardio!
I love running outside and you'd be surprised how relaxing it can be but if you prefer the gym thats totally fine too. Kickboxing is a GREAT cardio workout and swimming in the summer can be a good cardio session too
I feel the same way about my weight but I'm really trying to alternate workouts so that my body doesn't expect the same routine and burns more of that fat!
good luck!0 -
I'm in the same boat. I've really been pushing myself in the gym, and so even though everything had 'tightened' up, the scale is not moving. And I know the whole 'muscle weighs more than fat' blah blah blah, but I still want to lose the weight! 2 years ago I lost 38 lbs. I was only excercising mildly, and just really concentrating on my diet. I consistently lost weight every week. So, I think it's a combination that I'm so close to my goal that it's harder to lose weight, and the fact that I'm working so hard in the gym. The only thing I can think to do is try and watch what I eat even more... maybe watch my carbs more... I don't know. It's frustrating though, huh?!0

I believe that you are building muscle! You may want to to change up your routine and add the cardio. I have the Insanity, but I find myself not being able to stick to doing the DVDs eveyday. I realized the weeks where I lost the most, were the weeks I mixed up my routine with Insanity, Zumba, Tae Bo, and some Circuit Training. I love variety!0

Well, as you know, P90X isn't really about losing weight as much as it is gaining strength and muscle, and burning fat. The scale numbers don't matter as much as losing inches. If you feel you need to add cardio to your routine, then that's totally fine. Just keep in mind that P90X wasn't specifically designed for weight loss.0

The scale stays the same but you're losing inches. What's the problem? Would you rather the scale go down and your belly stayed big?? Who cares what the scale says. Look at the mirror instead.0

I've not lost any weight on P90X but have lost several inches - 4 on my waist alone. I'm down from size 2 to a 0 at the same weight. I do the classic version and use heavier weights than most woman probably do. You may want to switch to P90X lean, it's more cardio. I'd stick with the P90X, as it really is a great program, especially if you have strength issues, you need it more than ever. Cardio isn't always the answer, strength training is super to break a plateau. Also, as your muscle adapt, they will retain water, which can cause weight to stay the same, or even go up.
If anything, I'd Stick with P90X then add 30 minutes of cardio on strength days.0 -
I saw a lady who did a transformation challenge, who didn't lose a pound of scale weight, but she won the challenge. Had an amazing body when she was done. If you are losing inches, gaining muscle, it will help give you a healthier looking body, than just losing scale weight.0

I did P90x for the full 90 days and the scale budged maybe 4 lbs. As previous posters have said you won't lose a ton of weight, but you will gain muscle. After I stopped P90x and moved over to more cardio based is when I sad RAPID fat loss with weight loss. Had I not done P90x before, it would have been like any other time I lost weight....slow and painful. Now that you have muscle, your metabolism will be much higher and it will be a lot easier to lose weight. I would suggest to keep up doing the strength videos (shoulders and back, legs and back, and back and biceps) and then on the other days, add in some interval training or high intensity cardio to kick start the fat loss. Also, in my opinion, the P90x CLASSIC is a little skimpy on the cardio, but the P90x LEAN integrates more cardio. Check out the Llean version and see if that works better for you.0

I am doing the lean version. I just think that's down from what I was doing cardio wise. I get the lean muscle and do see the difference in my shape. Yes about 8" lost so far and it's awesome. That's why I was thinking I'd add more cardio in and use the P90X for the strength. I love the Kenpo. I'm just having a hard time doing two workouts. Some days it's so easy and others OMG. I don't always have 2+ hours for exercise. I have kids. LOL.
I'll keep you updated. I do believe I'm going to try and kick some elliptical *kitten* today for cardio and see how I do.
Thanks for all the input.0
