Gym Gods and Goddesses, I have a question. I've been eating a greek yogurt. as a pre-workout snack, and a protein shake as my post. Am I doing this right? In general, what kind of calorie/protein/fat/carb combo should I aim for?? Thanks in advance!

Sounds good to me. I like something with a little sugar (fruit, yogurt, etc) before my workout...and either a meal like dinner and/or a protein shake afterwards.0 -
My 2 cents - you don't need a pre-workout "snack" if you've eaten within the last 1-2 hours. Otherwise, have a small snack to boost your blood sugar and give you some fuel for the workout.
After the workout have a real meal or meal replacement shake within 15-60 minutes. What I mean by meal replacement shake is that it should contain carbs, not just protein. And I don't mean 4g of carbs. I mean 13-25g. Do not skimp on carbs after the workout.0 -
I swear by the 90 calorie Fibre One Bars before a workout...0

Agreed. I am NOT a supplement junkie, but I do use one for post-workouts. It's called "AfterGlow", I'm not sure who makes it, but it tastes very good (like a sweet gatorade), and the protein / carb ratio is great, it also gives you many of the "hot" supplements in one drink (though I'm not advocating that they do any good!)My 2 cents - you don't need a pre-workout "snack" if you've eaten within the last 1-2 hours. I would say how do you feel during your workout? If you feel like your energy level is good then it's working. Post workout I'm not so sure. I feel like healthy natural foods (ie fresh fruit/veg/nuts) should be as good as a protein shake for post workout (i'd like to see a scientific study to test my theory). I've been using .5 banana before and .5 banana afterwards... along with a small handfull (~100cal) of raw nuts (almonds/walnut/pistachio). I also think it's just as important to think about water intake before / afterwards.0

I eat the Fiber One 90 cals before as well, in the car on the way to the gym...( a good 30 min). I like the taste.. better than any of the other ones...0
