Butter VS Margarine

Pass The Butter .. Please.

This is interesting . .. .

Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back.
It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow colouring and sold it to people to use in place of butter. How do you like it? They have come out with some clever new flavourings..

DO YOU KNOW.. The difference between margarine and butter?

Read on to the end...gets very interesting!

Both have the same amount of calories.

Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams; compared to 5 grams for margarine.

Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.

Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.

Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few and
only because they are added!

Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavours of other foods.

Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years .

And now, for Margarine..

Very High in Trans fatty acids.

Triples risk of coronary heart disease .
Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol)

Increases the risk of cancers up to five times..

Lowers quality of breast milk.

Decreases immune response.

Decreases insulin response.

And here's the most disturbing fact.... HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY INTERESTING!

Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC... and shares 27 ingredients with PAINT

These facts alone were enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).

You can try this yourself:

Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it open in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will notice a couple of things:

* no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)

* it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value ; nothing will grow on it. Even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not find a home to grow. Why? Because it is nearly plastic . Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?

I have used butter for years now. I grew up on margerine and it took me a while to actually get used to the taste of butter.

I gave up on margarine, even my Light Country Crock. There are no hydrogenated oils or transfats but it is still pure chemical. Our bodies know butter and I don't eat enough of it to have to worry about it.

Looking at ingredients labels can really gross you out. It's downright disgusting.

This is like the McDonalds food thing. Let a burger and fries sit out and IT NEVER MOLDS.

Right now I have Land O Lakes Butter with Olive Oil. All that's in it is sweet cream butter, olive oil and salt.

I hate how Margerine is marketed as a healthy alternative to butter with its heallth checks and whatnot. This crap should be banned...

After reading the labels, we switched to pure butter over a year ago and use it in moderation.

Love my butter and always have. I can pronounce all the ingredients and I can also make it myself in small quantities.

Very interesting! Butter is a "problem" food for me! My husband and I blend 1/2 olive oil with 1/2 butter, pour it into containers and keep in the fridge. My husband likes this on his toast, we will saute with it if we need to and I really like it on popcorn. We use a lot less and it stays a spreadable consistency in the fridge.

butter is better that's for sure! Thanks for posting. Two years ago I was unable to work due to health problems and I've made it my new "job" to make sure my family gets the best. I try to cook from scratch for every meal and I even bake our own bread, muffins and treats (granola bars and granola). The family is much healthier and happier. My husbands blood work has changed and the doctors have noticed the changes that we've made. Natural is better for you. Thanks again.

Never understood if the facts were bad, why people needed to embellish with fiction to make it sound even worse. That seems to be the case with the OP, which has been floating around for a number of years.

There is so much misinformation out there, it is surprising that people aren't more skeptical of things they read. Butter and margarine do not always have the same amount of calories. You can get reduced calorie margarine. There are a lot of things wrong with that blurb you posted.

There are a lot of misconceptions, half-truths, and myths out there on the internet. Learn to use Google before you post stuff. Take the time to question your beliefs and find actual scientific facts to support or dismiss the things you follow.

Just an FYI on the healthcheck
"margerine is marketed as a healthy alternative to butter with its heallth checks and whatnot:"

grab a box or product in your house with the "health check" on it, and see what it says, it's not an endorsement of that product being healthy but that the manufacturer of that product has financially supported the program.

Like this one "the health check program is your assurance that this product meets specific nutrient criteria based on Canada's food guide... Manufacturer name financially supports the health check program... This is not an endorsement."
