I need help!!
I am 24, 5'7", female, and have an inactive occupation.
In order to loose 2 lbs. a week, my fitness pal gave me 1220 calories a day to consume. I usually end up eating 1300-1375. I am working out 6 days a week (I spent 3/6 days doing Zumba where I burn minimum of 500 cal. The other 3/6 days I work out on the treadmill and burn 400 cals.).
I'm not really loosing weight. I feel I don't eat enough.
Are my numbers right? Help?!
(P.S. My weight goal is 150 lbs.)

Be sure that you are eating your exercise calories.0

Looks like you should be sonsuming 1600-1700 cals a day. Eating too little will slow your metabolism. Make sure you eat a big breakfast and get some protein in immediately after your workout.0

I think you are consuming too few calories. Have you tried increasing your calorie intake? Your body might be going into starvation mode with what calories you are consuming.0

I think you need to eat more. On days you burn 400 you should eat your 1220 plus 400, otherwise you are not providing enough fuel for your body to exercise
I would suggest eating your exercise calories. MFP is set up this way for a reason I mean would you go to WW and not bother to count points, as the main idea of MFP is to keep your caloric deficit the same each day regardless if you exercise or not. I don't think anyone on WW would join that program and not count points so I can't figure out why people would come to MFP and not follow the program (eat exercise calories).0 -
On your home page at the top, you'll see a math equation that shows how many calories you've eaten minus the exercise calories you burned, giving you a net calorie amount. That net amount should not fall below 1200. From the numbers you're giving here, it sounds like your net is falling below 1200 because you're exercising so much. If you eat more to bring that net number up, you'll feel better and you should start losing weight more easily.0

Do you eat your exercise calories? You should be eating 1200 cals AND whatever you burn exercising. Your net cals should be 1200. If not I don't blame you for feeling hungry! I can eat up to 1600 or 1700 on days I exercise a lot. Exercise ueses up the cals you eat, you need more cals for energy.0

How long have you been working out? Have you taken measurements? I'm given 1200 calories and normally don't go above that on days I exercise and definitely not rest days. I say listen to your body. If you're still hungry then eat. Some days I'm way hungry other days not so much. It all depends on your body.0

I have a few thoughts... First, you could try to start slow. Start with setting it as 1 lb a week, and then slowly move it to the 2 lbs a week so that your body gets used to the reduced calories. That's what I did, and it really seemed to help me.
Are you drinking enough water? I'm terrible at it, but I do feel it helps with the hunger. I also chew a LOT of gum.... just to get me through.
Finally... are you actually eating your exercise calories??? (At least 1/2 of them?) Because MFP set your net at 1220... but if you exercise and burn 500 calories your net is then at 720 - so you definitely then do need to eat more and should!!! That will also slow the weight loss down as well.
Good luck!! You can do it!!!0 -
I think I should raise my total calories to 1500. Is that a reasonable number? Let's say I exercise and burn 400 calories. Should I eat a total of 1900 calories for that day? Would I still loose 2 lbs. a week?
I'm new to this so I'm lost.0 -

No, you probably wouldn't lose 2 lbs. a week. You need a certain deficit in order to lose 2 lbs. a week. If you insist on that rate, your net intake that I talked about in my earlier post needs to be right at 1200. So if you burned 400 calories in a day, you would eat 1200 plus the 400 you burned, bringing you to 1600 total.
Personally though, if you're just starting out, I might set your goal to a slower rate of loss while your body adjusts to this new lifestyle. If you're used to eating much more and then suddenly you drop your intake that much, it's going to be really hard on you. Try setting your goal to losing 1 lb. per week at first, and then when you adjust to that you can speed up your loss.0 -

Well... two ways... if you set your goal at 1.5 lbs to lose a week, then it will raise your calories and then you eat your 400 exercise calories. Or, with where you're at right now, you eat your 1220 and your 400-500 exercise calories... so totalling 1620-1720 depending on what you do for the day. Your Net Calories equals the calories you eat minus the calories you exercise... that net calories should not go below 1200. I hope that helps!!0 -
Try to get in at least 1500 to 1700 calories on the days you exercise. Even though you don't work outside the home I would assume you do something during those days so maybe you should step that selection up one level. Whether you are washing dishes, cleaning or whatever. Unless you are literally just sitting on the couch for those many hours which isn't good. On the day you aren't exercising eat around around 1300.0

Here are some great threads that will help explain how MFP works and how to figure out realistic/healthy goals/deficits, and how metabolism works. MUST READS! Good luck to you!
