Hi everyone,
I started dieting with My Fitness Pal on January 17th, and have 100 pounds to lose. Although, I'm new here, I've been on a diet for 20 years! HA HA! In any case, I am REALLY LIKING how easy MFP is to use, and am very motivated at this time, so I hope to make my journey a great, long-term, lifestyle success story. When the going gets slow, I tend to get frustrated and fall off of my program--whatever it is at the time. I hope to gain great friends as I lose pounds, and hope the support here will help me keep my focus on the long-term outcome of a healthier lifestyle.
For my program, I am using a combination of Medifast meals and protein/carb balanced meals. I am not doing the complete Medifast program, as health issues do not permit me to do so, but I am staying in a 1500-1700 calorie range daily, based upon my BMR. This should net me a 1-2 pound loss per week.. and it'll take at least a year to lose what I need to lose. Figuring for a couple of plateaus, It'll likely take me longer than a year. SO, I figure I'll know some of you pretty well by time I reach my goal.
Love seeing the success stories here.. I hope to be one of them! :-D

Good luck. I'm here for the long haul as well. I started around 400 lbs awhile ago. I managed to get down to 197 and have gone up and down since then. I want to at least get back to 197 and then I will reevaluate my goals. Good luck, this site has been great so far.0

Welcome aboard. You can friend me if you like. I have a total of 68 lbs to lose and I have been following the same philosophy as you. I intend to lose 1lb a week for a year and then work on the rest of the weight next year. I am accounting for plateaus too. I have been doing good so far. I have lost 15 lbs which is so not typical for me. I have been exercising this time too.
Best of luck to you.0 -
Welcome aboard. First you must change your wording from "DIET" to "Life style change". It really makes a difference. Not sure what the Medifast program is but if it's working stick to it. Remember that as you loose weight to change your BMR range. Your doing great and keep doing what your doing as it's working. Add me as a friend if you wish. We are here to support you.0

I realize each person is different and you need to do what is best for you, but I strongly encourage you to embrace just eating healthy foods rather than a program, as this should be a new lifestyle rather than a diet. I promote eating the perimeter of the grocery store: fresh vegetables and fruits, lean meats, dairy and rely some on frozen products (vegetables, fruits) to supplement keeping foods in the house. I still eat lots of other foods from throughout the grocery store, but they are at a minimum now as they tend to be more processed and contain more sodium and other things that really are not good for your body. I think your goal of losing 1-2 pounds a week realizing you will have plateaus is a very healthy goal and outlook; keep it realistic and you will succeed! You CAN do this one day at a time, sometimes one meal at a time!!!! Good luck to you on your journey!0

Hey there - I agree its a journey. It took us years to get the way we are - not surprising that it will take time to get back. Thanks for posting. It's a great community.0

Good luck on your journey. I myself have been on a diet for over 20 years and i have been up and down also.
I do love this site as well because it is easy to use. Dont forget that if you fall off the track you just get back on.0 -
THANK YOU all for your warm welcome! I really appreciate all of your comments. I really like the sentiment that I must change my wording from "DIET" to "Life style change." INDEED! I shall quit using that four-letter word that I hate so much anyway. ;-)
I appreciate the info on grocery-perimeter eating too. The all-natural way of eating is indeed the best way to eat for a lifetime. I use the Medifast meals as a tool that is extremely easy for me to implement as I am on the go a lot. Grab and go eating had me eating too many carbs and fats, not enough protein. The Medifast meals are protein-carb balanced, they meet daily nutrient requirements, and are very easy to take wherever. That allows me to EASILY stay within my calorie range, have protein/carb balanced meals, and not always have to think-plan all of my eating ahead of time. If food preparation and packing to go makes following my program time-consuming, then I *know* from past experience I am not going to stick with my eating plan for long. The Medifast meals are what currently keeps me on track. It's what I need right to make my plan easy to stick with.. ;-)
Nothing to say I can't use the Medifast meals as on the go meals forever too.. Since I'm not following their program outright, but am using the meals as a tool.. I figure I'll always need those tools at my disposal if I'm going to make this a permanent lifestyle change. Eating the grocery perimeter is part of my plan.. but not the entirety of it lest I fall off this wagon quickly! :-O
I'm really looking forward to sharing this journey with all of you. THANK YOU! :-D0
