I am 5'3" and weigh 172lbs...fit in the obese category. i am a pear shape with most of the weight below the waist. I have been eating healthy(more fruits/veges/lean protein/less salt/no sugar) after realizing that i have been under-cutting my calories for the past 10+ years. I attend a 90 min Hot Yoga class 5-6 days a week, where i burn approximately 1100 calories in each session. Please help me with any advice you may have because i am getting extremely frustrated with the lack of results and would greatly appreciate your help!

It'd be interesting to see your diary and see where your calories are coming from.0

Hi there,
You haven't got your diary open, so we can't see what you are eating and what your daily goals are.
But.. I'd say the main thing is - are you sure you are eating enough. You should eat the amount that MFP calculates for you, and better to be 50 over than way under on a regular basis.
Also, how do you know how much you are burning at your hot yoga sessions? And are you eating back the calories that you burn off?

I agree , lets see your diet, because if your high on sodium you retain water. I watch my sodium count alot lately because its easy to go over your daily amount. Drink tons of water.0

I agree and I know from the pre-op course I am in that it is where the calories came from....eating the wrong foods even if you are eating below the caloric intake will sabotage you as your body metabolizes different foods differently...
Also if you are below your daily intake and causing your body to starve it will also sabotage your efforts....0 -
I just opened up my diary so you guys can take a look.
I dont tend to eat back the calories burned because i feel like that would go against my objectives of eating less calories than burned in order to lose weight.0 -
So based on my weight and the 90 minute session, id burn approx 1100 calories during each session. I attend the class 6 days a week and believe me when i say that class is a workout!0

HI there,
MFP already builds in a deficit when you plug in the figures to get your daily target.
For example, it calculates that to stay the same weight - I burn 1770 calories a day. Just in my normal daily life.
I have set it up that I want to lose 1lb a week, so it tells me to eat 500 cals a day less => daily calorie target is 1270.
Now... if I exercise on top of that...that is even less. So, if I did your class, my body would only be getting 170 calories to function each day - that's not enough...
Try to eat back some of those exercise calories - you'll notice a difference, I'm sure.

I think you may need to eat more.0

Hot yoga? 1100 calories a day? I definitely hope you are drinking a lot of water and eating....if not, your body will be holding onto anything you put in it.0

It also looks like you are eating a a lot of processed foods. Try eating cleaner...you might be retaining a lot of water from your sodium intake.0

I second the avoiding processed foods. They are full of hidden sodium and that will not help. I also would suggest drinking more water. Most of all I would suggest getting a heart rate monitor that will allow for continuous readings of your heart rate to figure out how many calories your yoga sessions are burning. I find that 1100 to be a possible, but unlikely amount. If you start eating back calories you have not actually worked off, you will definitely not lose weight.0

From what I see you are not accurately tracking or, You are way under eating and you are not getting enough water.
I think you need to add some more whole foods. There was one breakfast meal where you drank a coffee and something else and then ate an orange.
Then there was another day you skipped dinner.
I don't know whether you really skipped it or didn't track it.
If you would like, my food journal is public you can take a look at it. I love coffee too. I am not saying don't drink it or don't eat oranges, I just think your body needs better fuel. Especially if you are burning 1000+ calories in a workout.0 -
my suggestion would be to go on a raw vegan diet. there are tons of creative recipes to try and you can eat as much as you want. plus results are awesome, at least they were for me. here are some recipe sites and articles on raw if you want to try it.

you need to ditch those mashed potatoes you eat frequently and definitely add tons of veggies and increase your lean protein---way too many carbs in my opinion.0
