Ok, well, I've been at this for about two weeks now and have already lost 10 pounds. I have struggled with my weight since I was a kid, but I always kept myself pretty active. I was never tiny, but the weight I had on me, fit me (if that makes sense.) Well, then I had two kids and a husband. And quite honestly, I got depressed and lazy. I started eating absolute garbage and began to average about a 10 pound weight gain per year. Over the course of 8 years... well, you get the picture. I have a tendency to lose a lot of weight very quickly from not eating and then put it all back on when I'm happy again. I'm definitely an emotional eater. If I'm very depressed, I don't eat anything. If I'm mildy depressed, I eat everything.
So, I started doing this when a friend told me about it. So far, it keeps me accountable for what I eat. And I make sure that I eat the number of calories I'm supposed to. I do eat a lot of vegetables, but my weakness is definitely carbs. So, I have decided that I can eat whatever I want, but I have to stay within my calorie limit. Making myself adhere to that rule, I have naturally started to monitor the things I eat and I make better choices. I try to eat my big meal during lunch. I'm also not a big breakfast eater, but I have tried to eat at least a yogurt. I think part of my problem is that my metabolism is very slow. I do have a documented thyroid problem, but I've been told that diet can also affect this.
So, here we go. I'm in this for the long haul. It will take me over a year to get where I want to be. That makes me sad, because like every other American, I want instant results and gratification. But every year I tell myself, "Well, by my next birthday I will be thin again." And that birthday never comes because I do ridiculous diets that I can't sustain and I gain everything I lose back and then some. So, for right now, I'm just going to make my goal 2 lbs per week, and if I lose more than that, it will be exciting. I graduate in May with B.S. degree and my goal was to lose 30 pounds by the beginning of May. I have 20 left, and for the first time, I feel like I can really do this. Long-term.

Good luck to you and like yourself I have a thyroid issue, i had mine removed 2 years ago and find losing weight very difficult however I have never done calorie counting before so its worth a shot and its day 2 for me so it really is early days but I am prepared to give this my best shot.0
