I'm wondering if anyone here lost some weight and then fallen off the healthy lifestyle wagon only to gain a few pounds AND then has gotten back to being healthy and lost some more weight?

I lost 23 pounds and then began going back to my bad habbits... So I've gained back 4 pounds and now I'm only down 19 instead on 23... I want to get back to my healthy lifestyle and weight loss.. I'm not starting tomorrow I'm starting back today right now.

Just wondering if the same has happened to anyone else?

I haven't been doing this long enough to have a setback like that, but this right here:
I'm not starting tomorrow I'm starting back today right now.

That is the PERFECT attitude! You got this. I'm not worried about you. :)

Yea. It happens. Sometimes life gets kinda crazy and you don't have time to cook or you're too tired so you just grab some fast food on the way home. Don't sweat it, you know what needs to be done. You can do it again!
  • All the time love, believe me you are not alone. I lost 2 1/2 stone a few years back and within a few months so trying to maintain had out back on 9lbs, got used to being that weight and then slowly put it all back on again, and two lbs extra!!!

I have had some ups and downs this time round too so you are not the only one. The best thing to do is like you said, dont start tomorrow or the begining of next week, start now, the very moment you realise you have fallen off. And most importantly, don't beat yourself up, you are human and it happens, but just try to check yourself next time before it goes too far (2st 9lbs too far in my case!!!!!!)

    Good luck:wink:
  • Although I haven't lost enough weight to have a real setback like this yet, I have heard from many on MFP that this often happens and is a regular part of the process - you just keep chugging until you get to your goal weight. Wherever the is progress, there will be setbacks.

It has happen to me. I fell off for about a month and gain 5 to 7 lbs back. I've been starting back slowly, but I can't get the body i want, without work. You can do it, you just need to stop the excuses. already i am two pounds down in one week.

I actually just got done doing the same thing. Almost a winter blahs hiatus. Had lost 24, gained back 4lbs and started mfp and got started again. I guess for me it is just a "life" thing. We can't be great all the time!

That's why I'm here. Lost 80 lbs 10 years ago, put 20 lbs back on, took it off and put it back on again so now I'm back to trying to get the same 20 lbs off again for the 2nd time. You're not alone!!!:grumble:

    That'd be me.

I started at 191lbs in August 2009, lost just under 20lbs and then gained back 13lbs. Then I went down to 167lbs before Christmas and my grandmother died. I stopped and gained back 10lbs.

I'm now back onto the healthy lifestyle and working my way back down. I've got another 7lbs to go before I get back to my lowest weight but I'm determined to get there and keep going down this time.

It's nice to see on a time line that despite the ups and downs, I haven't gained it all back.

I've spent my entire adult life in this limbo. I go on a "diet" and lose my weight, or the majority of it, only to fall right back into my old habits and gain it back, plus some more of course.
Only in the last few years did I finally realize it is all about your lifestyle. If you only keep nutritious and healthy food in your house that is all you will eat, even when you overeat or snack too much sometimes. When I have a "munchie" now the only items I have to choose from are cheerios or popcorn or fruit.
I have mostly just "maintained" in the last few months. Work has been horribly hectic and this is the time of year I tend to have the "winter blah's". To compensate I started the C25K last week and am now mid way through my 2nd week. Keeping up your exercise definately helps you to keep motivated and certainly brightens the mood.

I fell off enough to gain it all back, and then some. I had to start all the way over. Marriage problems, depression, divorce, then starting to redate again, I gained almost 70lbs in two years.

Sure! It's a balancing act. When you realize you're too far astray you get yourself back on track. See the 8 pounds I needed to lose in my ticker? That was from health issues and getting lazy towards the end of last year. Now that I'm able to track more easily, using MFP, hopefully I won't let it go that far again.
  • It'll probably happen again. There's always an excuse to stop that good habits you've picked up. Getting sick for a few days is a really good way to take a week or two off. The key is not being satisfied unless your weight shows up at that target weight every week. Starting today is the only way it's gonna happen! Keep it up

I don't think we'd be here if we hasn't...... diets are short term most of us have to make a life change

Yes to both questions. This is my biggest struggle - once I slip, it's hard for me to get back on track. My big test was after the holidays. I had stopped tracking and gained 4.5 pounds. But I was able to get it together and have lost what I gained plus and additional seven pounds.

It happens. Being able to learn from mistakes is more important than avoiding them completely.

Definitely! I've always had a lose some-gain some relationship with my body. Only this time I'm way more into working out so I hope to keep the weight off. Every time I feel like I've gotten off track, I do exactly what you said...pick right up where I left off the moment I realize it! It really is the best thing to do.
  • I lost a little over 100 pounds 12 years ago. When I got injured in the Army I spent 2 years in a wheelchair and ended up gaining about 40 pounds back (I wasn't allowed to get my heart rate up, so pretty much no exercising). Eventually I got back into shape. I was in a bad car accident and put about 25 or 30 on during rehab, then maintained for several years. Grad school put 20 back on me, so I'm losing that again.
