Two a Days

I have a hectic lifestyle. I work fulltime 1-10:00 pm and go to college three days a week. I have joined a city rec center and workout five days a week. Two of these days I do Two a days, swimming laps in the morning and treadmill or elliptical in the afternoon or evening. I have a job that allows me to do small hand weights at my desk while I work and my employer has mapped out a inside and outside walking course that we can do on our breaks. Since I have over a hundred pounds to lose and I want to be able to hike my beloved Rocky Mountains again, I feel I need to workout as much as I can fit into my busy schedule.

Does anyone else do two a days? What are the pros and cons to the two a day? Any advice for my workout schedule?

Yes, whenever I can---a little weights and a little cardio and sometimes some water aerobics.

You are doing a great job at fitting all that in!!!! Keep up the great work!

I haven't done that in a long time, but I have read a lot on the subject. It sounds like as long as it's doable, and you don't overtrain, you should be fine. I think you need to remember not to exercise too close to bedtime or to overtrain the same muscles. It looks like 30-60 minutes in the a.m. and 30-60 minutes in the p.m. is doable. Burnout is what you need to beware of. It's funny, because I was just thinking last night, I need to add something at night, but it will probably only be 15-20 minutes because of kids' schedules. Good luck!

When I dropped the most weight was when I was doing 2 a days. They aren't as intense as footballer's do, but I would do my workouts and weight training every morning. And every afternoon would go walking or ride my bike with my son for another hour.

I dropped weight the fastest then. But I was doing it probably 5 out of 7 days. I also didn't eat back my exercise calories either. I can't wait until I can start losing again.

Good luck and keep up the hard work.

There are definitely benefits to two-a-days, when done right. Obviously you get in more calorie burn during the day from the exercise, but an added benefit I've read is that the workouts boost your metabolism as well.

If this is something you do for a while, I would definitely encourage keeping a variety in your workouts to keep your body guessing and prevent injury. Take care of yourself.

It helps that I live alone and have very few outside deterrents. LOL Who knew being single could be beneficial!

As long as you aren't burning yourself out or risking injury --- keep up the great work :)
I did this today actually with weights in the afternoon and then cardio in the evening. I'll probably attempt to do this better when I'm studying/working.

You have the best excuse for not doing two a days. How's the pregnancy going?

I do  On a Tuesday I do Box fit in the morning and Aquarobics in the evening. On Thursday I do a bit of swimming but mostly just sit in the jacuzzi in the morning then in the evening I do Body Attack followed by Body Pump. At the moment I am also doing the 30 Day Shred, so technically on Tuesday and Thursday I am 3 a day

I seem to spend my life with permanently stiff muscles at the moment but I am enjoying it. I should add I also do Body attack on Monday, rowing, biking and elliptical on Wednesday, a spin class most Fridays and either a step class or cardio pump on a Saturday.

    Fantastic effort. :drinker:

Yes I double up on at least 3 days a week when I train before & after work. I usually do my cardio in the morning because I like to get it out of the way, or swimming is also best done in the morning very early as I'll get a whole lane to myself. I prefer to do both on an empty stomach. I often keep my weight training to evenings so I can take advantage from the energy I've got from foods consumed during the day.

I also swim very earl typically . It kick starts my day and I would have too many reasons at the end of the day not to.
