Hey everyone!

I join MFP about a month ago, and I love it. I joined because I need to get in better shape for The Warrior Dash in Ohio. It's a military style obstacle course spread over three miles. The event is in June so I need to gain strength and endurance so my buddies don't humiliate me there. Anyone else using the Warrior Dash as motivation to get in better shape?

Yay! I just found this race/course and signed-up RIGHT AWAY! It looks like a fun way to get your butt kicked

I am on w3/4 of c25k, and am not doing my Dash until Sept (Oregon), but I plan to do another 5k around May/June... all of that training still has me *slightly* scared of the Dash, and I am definitely using it as a reminder/plan to get my butt in shape.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!!!

I read about it earlier this year and I want to go *SO* bad... I'm thinking of going to the Portland one since I'm located in Canada and I guess we don't have that here...

I am not using it as motivation, but I did see a ton of friends do it last year here in portland oregon, and the spots filled up quickly so I didn't get in! I want to do that this year!

    BUT

My motivation is the RAGNAR RELAY! its a fantastic race I did last year with 11 other people, its an average of 187 miles, and you run it over a course of two days, it was sooo much fun! my average mile was 11:00 minutes. I am determined to do it faster this year!

They do them all over the U.S. its super fun!

There is one in BC--August 6th (check out their website). They have one in WA, too! I think it's in July... but I will be living in WA and still going to the OR one--I like the course layout better.
  • I did the warrior dash in Florida. My Bib was 50445 if you wanna see my pics or video on the warrior dash stie. I am not a runner and it was my first "5K" and actually I'm glad I did that instead of a real 5K. It's like the obstacles almost provided a small break from running, lol, if that makes sense. Thanks to all of florida pretty much being a swamp, our was super muddy, so it was hard to actually run in some parts because the mud was sucking you in up to your mid calves. But, it was a blast and I can't wait to do it again. I am running my first "normal" 5K in March. We'll see how that goes

There are others out there too. Just google your locaiton and obstacle 5k. Also, I got my Warrior Dash through groupon, so it was only $25, great deal

I'm signed up for the Minnesota Warrior Dash in July. It will be my first one, but by then, I'll have four 5ks and two 4 milers under my belt. I'm a little intimidated by the obstacles, but I recruited my boyfriend to do it with me to help me through the harder obstacles (military wall!).

Our plan for training is to run, hike and play on the jungle gym. Luckily, he has a seven year old son, so we have an excuse to play on the monkey bars and cargo ladders!

    Best of luck to you!

How far in advance of your race was the Groupon released? That is a phenomenal price!
  • I am not using the Warrior Dash as a motivation, but am using something similar. The base in my area hosts Seabee Mud Run and that is my ultimate goal. I know I won't be able to participate this year, but next year is my motivation. I can't even run 100 meters, so I know I won't be able to run a 5 mile course by September, but next September - IT IS ON

I wanted to do the North TX one so bad this year but I am running a triathlon the weekend before that so I didn't think it was smart to do two hardcore things on back-to-back weekends. BUT, I am seriously considering trying to train for the Tough Mudder race that comes to North TX in October. That sounds like a major challenge!! Either way, I am definitely doing the Warrior Dash in 2012!

Unfortunatley, it was like 15 days prior...so I didn't even know about the race til i saw that. Not sure if they will have it everywhere, So if your heart is set on doing it, I don't know how long you'd want to wait before biting the bullet and doing the full price.

Thanks! It would definitely be a challenge. One of my old fraternity brothers/roommates just did the Austin Tough Mudder and he said it wasn't that bad. Of course, he is a personal trainer and works out like a fiend. I'm still undecided but I am leaning towards doing it. We'll see....

Dang...yeah we're for sure going to do it and just haven't paid for our entry yet. If I could pay $25 instead of $65 that would be rad, but, waiting until 2 weeks prior for an un-guaranteed deal...seems risky.
