Binging

I am the queen of binging: binge eating; binge drinking; binge spending.
How to you control your urge to binge eat? I am really good for about 2-3 weeks and then have a massive urge to eat a big load of rubbish. I always hate myself the next day.

The best thing that helps me is this site.. if I feel like I wanna eat something super unhealthy.. I post about it.. I post what I want and crave for as my "Status" and then ask people for their opinion.. or what they think a healthier alternative is.. and that way.. it kinda makes me want it less. when I hear people tell me that it will hurt my outcome. I can't help the spending too much.. cause well that's just me... and the drinking I don't do alot.. but I do love food.. but I also love this new feeling.. so next time you want to Binge.. post it for all to see.. and get some alternatives0

I think I'd be mortified to post it.....lol. I can see the status now: "I want to eat an entire bag of doritos, shall I?" - I would look like a greedy b@satard :-)0

I started eating every 2-3 hours instead of 3 meals. That way I don't really have time to "binge" because there isn't as much space between. When I am really craving something I decide whether its salty, sweet, or rich in flavor then I pick the healthy alternative.0

Also, sometimes you want to do those things because you are bored. Next time you want to fill up on junk food, do an exercise instead or drink a big glass of water. Sometime people confuse thirst with hunger. You don't need to cut out all of your favorite foods either, just do them in moderation. Maybe as a small weekly treat. This way its not as much of a temptation0

I had this exact problem in the past. Reason for it, was bc i wasn't eaten ENOUGH and i was TOO restrictive. I kept eating the same boring "diet" food over and over, sometimes going to bed STARVING. I ate very, very little carbs and didn't have much energy during my workouts.
Now i'm eating 6 times a day, every meal consist of High Protein , Moderate Carbs and very little fat. Let's say you're craving a pizza, eat HALF of ONE just to please your cravings and walk away. You will feel A) Proud you didn't eat the whole thingYour craving will go away until next time (just make sure it's no ttoo often
. Go online and research some healthy recipes, i take fattening foods and i re-create them in a healthier way. take pictures along the way , that way you have pictures to look back on and it will motivate you to continue on, and stop the binge eating.
Good Luck and remember, you won't see results overnight.0 -
I've been documenting my journey through my B.E.D. for some time at KnightFit.com (my blog) and found that (along with therapy) the best thing that has helped me, is being public about it. It sucks so much to talk to your friends and family about it, but after you open up, most of the time, they'll be supportive. There are times in the past that I would be in middle of secret binge, but have to go to work. So on the break, I might have a couple candy bars. My friends wouldn't think anything about it, since it's only a couple hundred calories, but now that I've talked to them about what I'm going through - I know that they'll look at the candy and know that I'm in middle of what might be a 4 day binge.
Just knowing that they'll see it for what it is can actually prevent it from starting - or at least, stop it from continuing. Also, the more I talk about it with people close to me, blogging, facebook and publicly, the less I've been binging for the past year or so, since I came out of the closet.
The first step is admitting that you have a problem and are having trouble controlling it. You've clearly done that - that's GREAT! The next step is talking to people about it. The next step is continuing education about it.
The book Binge No More by Nash is really great, and I've reread it a few times. Not really so much for gaining new information, but just to keep the B.E.D. in the front of my mind. For the past year or so, I'll get up an hour earlier every day and have a healthy breakfast while reading/studying a new book on my binging, nutrition, exercise, or something that will help develop me further in life, in the direction that I want to go.
The hour I spend in the morning sets the tone for the entire day. On the days I skip it, or sleep in, I absolutely notice a lack of forward motion and thinking in my daily life.
Give it a shot and see the difference, it's like a drug - I can't give it up - and don't want to
Best of luck!
Steve

I get in that habit a lot too, there is a lot of snacks, snack machines, free soda at some of the places I work, and it is really hard sometimes to not gorge myself on the things i miss so much. Then I step back and remind myself why am doing this and what I want from my goals, and how awesome it is to see that scale go down. Plus all of the hardwork I have already put in, and tell myself its not worth it. That's what works for me.0

I'm a binger too and so is my daughter. But once I get junk food out of my system for a couple of weeks I don't crave them anymore or have the desire to binge. That's where I'm at now. But if I slowly start adding junk back into my diet, just a little bit here and there I'll become a full blown binger again. So I'm trying not to do that anymore. I can't "have just one" of certain things, anymore than an alcoholic can have "just one drink" or someone trying to smoke can have "just one cigarette." I'll fall off the wagon, good luck to you! (I eat fruit or dark chocolate covered prunes when I crave sweets)0
