This is my first week at this-using this website & exercising and I don't weigh in until Saturday.... but I started the week weighing 231, a few days later I was down to 229 (I cheated and peeked at my weight early)... but now here I am its first thing in the morning and I am 1 lb heavier then when I first started-232!!! Last week I just ate healthier didn't even exercise and I lost 5 lbs. This week I'm exercising, eating healthy and documenting everything ...and I'm gaining!! What am I doing wrong??? Somethings clearly off-I'm literally retaining everything! All my water and foods are literally staying in me!!! Help me!!!

I am no expert but don't freak. I know due to water, the time you ate and all that, your weight will vary a bit daily. I was in somewhat the same boat last week with looking at the scale daily but it finally started going down again. You are doing what you are supposed to do. Hang in there......

First off don't be upset. Your weight will fluctuate from day to day. I can put on 400gms overnight then lose it all plus more the next day. How is your diet? are you eating lots of fresh fruit and veges and drinking lots of water? Are you keeping track of your sodium levels this can be a problem as I just found out.

Keep at it, it will happen if you follow the program and stay under you calorie goals.

Stay Strong. Because you lost 5lbs last week your body and just balancing itself out. Keep doing what your doing and keep your exercises going and you will notice the weight coming off. Also I recommend as hard as it may be to not weight yourself more then once per week this way you wont get discouraged. Also I know in my case, the weight was not moving but the inches were coming off. Be patient with yourself. You did not gain overnight so it will not come off overnight. YOU CAN DO IT. Hope this helps.

Your weight can fluctuate over a week - which is why some people suggest weighing in only once a week or less frequently.

Your body will also need to adjust to the new diet and exercise.

You may be losing fat but putting on muscle so you might have a net loss of zero but be healthier, muscle is more dense so you will get trimmed and tonned. In addition to measuring your weight you shoudl also measure you neck, wasit and hips to see if you have changes there. Also clothes might fit better.

If you open up your diary to others we might be able to make some comments as to what may be holding you back.

That exact thing happened my first week believe it or not. When I started MFP I changed the way o was eating and I was not having regular BMs and I think my body was just freaking out to the changes. Keep with it and you WILL lose. :)

THANK YOU! I thought it was just me... like my body is completely not itself. And I truly feel like I am holding everything in! Hopefully it all gets back to normal soon or I am going to be even more overweight come weigh in time.

Some days I wake up jumping from 1 pound to the next. A lot of things factor in. Just keep exercising and eating right..don't freak out yet give it a few more weeks and see the difference. Some bodies just take longer...mine does. I have PCOS and it slows down my metabolism down so I have to work harder to get a result.

Ya know what I did? I put the scale away... I was stressing to much about my weight every day and stress is terrible when trying to lose. I tucked my scale in a place where I know it's not convenient to grab it every day and when a week has passed I will take it out. Keeping thoughts in my mind that I'm losing everyday and doing my best when it comes to exercise and eat, instead of focusing on what that damn number told me everyday. And if you know you wont' be able to stop weighing yourself, have someone else hid the scale. :)

I agree...do you check in a week...every other day? Are you a instant gratification person, like me and have to jump on every other day to see if it's working or not and then when you see the same number 3 days in a row or as you did a pound heavier, you figure what am I doing this for.

I learned that my body after 3 or 4 days will dump all the pounds in one day, kinda weird, but true. I freaked out and would yell at my scale until I noticed the tread. Some days you'll be heavier and others you won't. I agree..put the scale away except weigh in days. Stress you out and stress adds weight!!
