Something that bugs me

I am all for healthy calorie goals. But it really bugs me when friends congratulate other friends and don't look at their food journals. Especially when the it is less than 1200 calories.

I mean, if you're sick and can't eat, that's one thing. But if a person is feeling well and eating less then 1200, that's as unhealthy as overeating.

Please don't simply congratulate others for being under their calorie goal. I don't unless I know they ate healthy. Please read their food journal.

Does anybody else feel this way?

I congratulate everyone on a loss or being under their calorie goal for two reasons:

    1. If I can't SEE their diary, I don't know if they are eating healthy or not, but I want to encourage them to try, to keep at it.

    2. There are a few folks that are way under their calories for various reasons that I KNOW ABOUT. Whether they have made an announcement to friends or I heard through email or msg on here, I know they are going through some medical or health issues and are not able to eat well. In that case, I want to encourage them to stick with it and not just give up.

I feel that coming shy of 1200 is better than going way over. Its not a bad thing to go a little over, but its a major accmoplishment for some to come in under those calories; however, I do agree that most people can make better choices as to where their calories come from--and I stress this on the boards. I, too, see a lot of people staying under 1200 (not by much)but then I look at what they ate, and it does not please me to see it all. I look at the numbers on the bottom -- I am curious to see how many carbs and sugar people are eating----as I believe those are the numbers that will hold people back from losing.

I agree with Katbaran, some people are going through different things personal, medical or emotional/mental and just have a hard time getting all the calories in and GREAT for them for logging and even checking in. I know it bugs you, I get that way too, but if you don't know what's going on in their personal life you really shouldn't judge them. I feel this is not a judgement site it is a support site. That's why I joined. I try to be kind because you don't know what someone has just been through or is going through and what you say could really derail them and they are just trying to do their best and this might be the only source of support that they have! My practice is, if I look at their diary and "I" think their food choices are not wise then I just don't comment unless I can find something positive in it, like they drank lots of water or exercise was good.
Remember this MAY be their only means of support for their weight loss journey and encouragement and good advice is what they need from all of us:smile:

Learning to eat healthy, is a full time job. I have never watched my calorie intake. Never watched what labels said. Have no idea how much of what I should actually be eating.

I almost always fall under 1200 calories a day. However when I first started I was at 600-700 calories a day, and I probably have been about there for a couple of decades no lie. Sometimes over sometimes under but I would guess around that everyday for 25 years. I rarely ate breakfast, or lunch...Just dinner.

Now I am making an effort to eat 3 meals a day, even if its drinking a slim fast. Its a whole hella lot of food for my system. I had no idea honestly the impact I was making on my body. Change comes but it takes time....I did not create these habits over night and they wont go away over night.

Yesterday I took my daughter to the doctors, then to get bloodwork, the library. Came home did some intense gardening for 3 1/2hrs and forgot to eat all day. Yep 5pm rolled around and nothing but water had passed my lips. Talk about panic mode. I had done so well the last couple of weeks...

I felt so bad, like how the heck am I supposed to take care of everyone else, if I dont take care of me...I beat myself up for an hour or so then figured today was a new day, and moved on.

I guess what I am saying is that people say WTG to me all the time on my food diary, even though I am under calories most days. It keeps me motivated to try harder, learn more ect. Dont give up on people just because they might be under. There could be real reasons why they are :)

I wish everyone great sucess on there journey! For me this is no longer a "diet" but a full complete lifestyle change! :flowerforyou:

I'm always under M-F but usually over S-S, it doesn't seem to affect my goals as I'm losing about 1-2 pounds a week. I wouldn't want to be under all 7 days as I would fear my body going into starvation mode; but I feel that any achievement should be acknowledged with positive support and if you really feel there is a problem and you know them well enough to say something you might say "great job but watch out for going too low on calories as you could undo all your hard work."

This is why my diary is private-I don't want people judging what I eat. I figure I am here for myself, and I like to have support from others-and I like to give support. This is a different experience for all of us, and I am not here to judge someone on what they eat. I have bigger things to worry about than that.

I am not the type of person who is going to say negative things to them if I notice that they are way over or under their calorie goal.

I am just saying that I get concerned. And I too am one of the people who that if I didn't have MFP, I know I would not be sticking to this healthy eating plan. This is pretty much the thing that keeps me on track. I live with somebody who doesn't have to watch what he eats, and heck he can lose weight without trying. I love him dearly, but our bodies are opposite.

i hate counting calories!...I look at journals but if they dont have sugar or sodium showing, I dont know if they did good or not.:indifferent:
