My husband is in the same boat. He needs to gain 20-25lbs. He can eat a whole box of mac & cheese, 3 hot dogs, a 12oz steak, loaded baked potato and drink a lot of beer and not pack a single ounce on. He is the only person I know that has quit smoking and actually lost weight (7lbs) lol

I wish you all the best- Maybe get some blood work done first to ensure you dont have an underlying medical issue going on

Although many people are here to lose weight MFP also can help with weight if you set that up to be one of your goals

now yes gaining body fat may be easy for many people. some people it is a chore to eat.

now gaining muscle is were the work begins. good luck!!
  • I have only started on this website today and have opened my diary for everyone to view.
I currently do no exercise at all but am starting P90x in a few days
I am looking to gain weight as I am under the recommended

    Thanks
  • I was looking at your diary and just be careful about fried foods and butters. They may be a good way to get calories in quickly, but they can be harmful to your health if it's a regular part of your diet. Look at focusing on whole grain pastas and breads (pasta has 200 calories per cup!). Also, adding snacks is a great way to get some calories that can really add up during the day. Try granola bars (like Nature Valley) or Clif bars have quite a few calories in them. Peanut butter is a great one too (about 200 cal/2 tbsp), especially if you pair it with a banana to get your fruit in (about 100 calories). Just make sure you're still getting fruits and veggies, even if they don't have as many calories. I have a solid nutrition background, so just ask me if you have any other questions

You are probably going to want more weight training than aerobics or cardio. I don't want to give you bad info so hopefully some of the trainers on here will see this and give you a hand.
I am trying to get rid of about 55 pounds, to bad I can't just give you some of mine. :)
  • Eat a crap load of food, LOTS!!!! But make it HEALTHY food. LOTS AND LOTS!!!

Include high calorie healthy foods like raw nuts, whole milk, extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil.

Check out "West Side for SKinny *kitten*" on Google for a great routine. It is truly awesome and based on West Side Barbell's proven formula.

And enjoy the burning hatred from those of us that fight to keep the pounds off LOL

You need to do weight training. And, still be mindfull of what you're eating. You want to gain muscle not fat. If gaining this weight is going to cause you to have a heart attack at 45 than you may as well stay thin LOL. P90X is really good, and once you start working out regularly you'll get addicted to it. And, remember the big guys at the gym have been weight training for years.

this is going to sound like an odd one, but you have got watch your fat intake, fat slows down digestion making you feel full longer. athletic conditioning is the way to go for gaining density, and not just weight, but to do that you still need a calorie surplus.

on a side note your not the only one here. I joined so I could monitor my intake and figure out what was making me sick my eventual goal is to get back some of the muscle mass I lost, but for now I would be happy to stop loosing weight.
  • Drink protein shakes through out the day!! My cousin had problems gaining weight and the only thing that finally got him to gain a little was by drinking about 5 protein shakes a day...
