Exercise Calories

Hi everyone,
I have been using the myfitnesspal app on my Iphone for almost 6 weeks now and I have been exercising on the elliptical for around 40 mins a day and it always adds my calories that I work off back onto my daily goal. Am I supposed to be eating back what I burn off? Because that seems kinda like it defeats the purpose. Sometimes I might eat around a 100 back but never the whole thing. I am worried though that I may not be consuming enough calories and may go into starvation mode. If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!!

Hi Amber!
I was wondering the same thing. My persoanl trainer told me that you pretty much ignore the calories that you burn. It sounded funny to me too, but he said in order to keep your metabolism going good you need the calories. I am still confused!!!! Why work so hard to burn the calories, if you go aheads and eat them. If you get a definite answer please advise!
Thanks,

The gym owner, who also is the personal trainer [not mine, can't afford it at this time] mentioned that protein shakes would come in handy and recommended having one with breakfast in the morning if you plan on working out before noon....but if you work out late, don't bother. So having a shake could help.....
Or maybe even a smoothie?0 -
There are so many great post on this. Do a search for exercise calories and you can find some great one. Bank does a excellent job explaining it.0

The system on this site has already cut out the calories from your daily allotment before you workout based on what you said you wanted to lose. So, if you didn't workout at all and ate all you were supposed to for calories you'd lose the, say, 1 lb a week you set as your goal, so eating the calories you are given from your work is what you should be doing.0

Do some research on the topic in the Search section of forums, there were some really helpful posts about. My answer is yes, eat them... but explanations are in those posts!0

Yes, I found it hard to get my head around this but apparently you do have to eat your exercise calories...my calorie allowance is 1200 and if i do 40 mins on the treadmill it goes up to 1600 so i should be consuming that amount every day...i like to keep a few in credit in case i go over the next day.0
