I was recently advised by my doctor to go on a gluten-free diet due to some health concerns.
I was curious if there is anyone else here who has gone gluten-free, and whether it helped in your weight loss goals.
I have heard that some people naturally lose weight when they remove gluten from their diet, even if they dont make any other calorie adjustment.

    I lost a little, but not much. I find it helps with my weight-loss goals because I have a very, very compelling reason to avoid gluten (which, for me and my system, also includes chocolate, corn, and excess dairy). My inexpensive options are naturally healthy: fruits, vegetables, meats, etc. Nothing too processed.

    My favorites to give myself the feeling of carbs:

    Millet
    Quinoa
    GF quick-cooking oats
    Brown rice
    Lentils
    Sweet potatoes

    "Desserts" still include healthy things like Greek yogurt, fruit, applesauce, and Lara Bars. I love Lara Bars. :D

    Splurging is still easy, even being gluten-free. I do find that I am eating healthier now that I am GF, just because I have cut out so many processed goods. Although if you really want to indulge, Betty Crocker makes **FABULOUS** gluten-free brownie and cookie mixes that you can find at most grocery stores. Fabulous. Even my boyfriend will ask for the brownie mix!

    Good luck in your GF journey! My doctor's don't want to hear anything to do with celiac; I still have to find a specialist. (I have all the symptoms - mouth ULCERS, hair loss, itchy skin bumps, digestive issues/pain, etc).

    I try to be as gluten free as possible to aid in my fitness goals and Crossfit performance. Plus I just feel better (more energy and less bloat) eating this way.

    I do eat dairy and some "unclean" junk but I limit it to 10% of my daily intake.

    I did not lose weight (haven't gained either) but I have lost body fat. I've done what they call a recomp. I am actually eating more now than I was when I wasn't GF.

    I've also been trying to remove as much processed foods as possible. I havent been tested as Celiac - I think perhaps I just have an intolerance. My wellness Doctor did just submit my blood work for a food intolerance test, because I suspect there are more intolerances than just Gluten, so we will see.

    I find I feel a lot better off the gluten also, and definitely less bloating.

    Congratulations on recomping your body. It isnt always about losing weight, but being healthier and having less bodyfat. Thanks for sharing!
  • Going gluten free was one of the best things I have ever don'e for my body. (Going Vegan was the other)

    My weight-loss increased quite a bit, it got ALOT easier! My daughter who was 10 at the time lost 11 pounds. She wasn't overweight, but she was on the highr end of the scale. She has actually maintained the same weight for a year and is still in a normal range. She also lost her belly, which was the only part of her that worried me because it was the only part of her that was not proportionate to her body. Her tranformation astounded me! I wsa transformed as well, but it was AMAZING to watch before my eyes.

    Have you tried Think Thin bars? They are AMAZING!!! I do GF and these have been a God send. They have 230 calories, 20 grams of protein (yes 20!) and 0g of sugar. They're super tasty and so good for you. They also keep you full for a really long time. I eat them for breakfast, as a meal when I'm on the run, or to satisfy a craving.

    Where do you find the Think Thin bars? I dont think Ive seen them before? Are they in regular grocery stores, or do I need to check a health food/whole foods store?

    I buy the Think Thin bars at Publix (grocery) so I think they're easy to find. They are good in a pinch, I try not to eat "fake" food but ingredient-wise they are pretty good for protein bars!

    It had more to do with going gluten-free. I have always been veggie.

    Hi - I am 15 days as a vegan, 15 days gluten free...have not seen any weight loss at all! Help?!! I need some encouragement to keep going...I have been juicing and doing green smoothies and eating beans and rice and salad. I would have thought I would have just dropped at least 6-8 but no, only 3.

    What do you eat on a daily basis? I go to a Bar Method class 5-6 times a week and am going to try to pick up my walking. Any comments or suggestion would really be welcomed!

    I don't know. I'm sure everyone is different. Are you tracking your calories and eating your exercize calories?

    I usually have a hemp protien shake and some coffee in the morning, then a grapefruit for a morning snack with some nuts and water. For lunch it's usually soup salad or whatever leftovers I have. Dinners vary, tonight I'm making Tofu "parm" with spaghetti with veggie full marinara sauce and salad. Tomorrow I'm making broccoli soup and risotto with asparagus and oyster mushrooms. I snack on nuts, fruit, chips and salsa and guac and leftovers, drink tons of water, and never restrict anything. Aside from animal products and gluten, I still eat everything I want, whenever I want. I also try to taper my calories by eating more earlier and less for dinner.

    It will pay off. I've yet to meet anyone for whom it hasn't. Just stick to it and you will see results... better yet, you will feel the results.
