    Not sure if it stands for anything, but you can "bump" a post if you want to know the response to it :)

    (cuz it shows up on your profile of what discussions you've participated in)

    I'm pretty sure it just allows people to save it for future reference under my topics, so they can go back to it later

    You say bump to either log the topic under your My Topics tab so you can easily find it later to write something, or you use it to push your thread to the top of the list to keep it on the first page so people can see it when they browse the forums.
