Hiya,
I will finish my 30 day shred on Mon 28th Feb and wanted to do a detox on that day to celebrate and help flush out the crap from my system.

Went from 112 lbs to 98 lbs since joining in Jan so it isnt a 'quick fix fad diet' thing, I want to flush my insides clean lol.

Monday is also mine and hubbys day off so would be a good day to do it.

I use to do a juice detox once every couple of months but I can not find the book I used.

Anybody tried any 1 day detox? I would really appropriate ideas/suggestions. Anyone want to join me on that day?

Sam :)

What does it entail? I could use a good flush.
  • Ooo a reply LOL

Well the book i did have (it must be in the loft) started you off with hot water and lemon then throughout the day different fruit juices (that you make yourself) like berrys and oranges to get you started in morning etc and every hour drink a green or a fruit tea or just a glass of water.
It recommends a light swim or pilates/yoga/walk in the morning and then every couple hours or so a different fruit or veg juice..

Also recommends a chilled afternoon, no work commitments, a movie, book etc warm scented bath and an early night.

I remember getting to about 6pm the last times I did it and being SO hungry, but after breakfast the next day feeling great.
Obviously a light breakfast of fruit and wholemeal toast or something and no heavy dinner the night before.

I am keen to do it the last day of my shred. I will try and dig out this book with all the recipes if you are up for it?
Unless you or anyone else has a better day detox? xxx

I don't have anything to add about the detox, but can I just say that I LOVE the fact that you've lost all of that weight (and being so tiny to begin with -- it must have been tough!) and STILL eat 1500-1600 calories a day! That makes me so happy to see! :flowerforyou:
  • LOL thank you scagneti!

I eat before and after I teach a dance lesson. But before I would choose a chocolate bar and crisps and fruit where as now I just choose fruit and drink more green tea etc

I was on 1200 for about 4 weeks, hit 98 lbs and went to maintain which gives me 1600 to play with. The harder work is toning up so its noticeable!

You still up for detox jmlowry? I have Monday as my day off, I could do a Saturday but I cant do zumba on no food hahaha and I cant miss zumba... I am one of these all or nothing people. But we can still do it the same 'weekend' lol xxx

Just fast for 24 hours and only drink water? The simple plan.
  • I did think about that, but I get pretty cranky when I am hungry LOL and I am not sure my hubby would appreciate the extra crank!

At least juicing keeps u busy too so you dont always think about eating food, cos you chopping, slicing, peeling and it takes some time to prepare.

But actually, the juice will push your glucose up, and so insulin, and it is that which will make you feel hungry, and cranky, from hypoglycemia. My experience is that with fasting on water, you're not even that hungry, because no insulin is secreted to lower blood sugar.
  • Good to know! Do you do a fast often? ever? Would you rule out drinking green tea? x
  • Ok did some reading on this last night and there was also an article in my 'natural health' magazine about the benefits of juice detox....with ingredients helping to 'flush' the colon making it more effective to absorb nutrients etc.

A lot of the juices (fruit or veg) have natural ingredients like ginger in them etc which obviously have various benefits.

JMlowry I am happy to type a bit of that up and post it to you ^^ Also found my book woop!!

Can again type up recipes 4u. Maybe one day juice detox and a water flush fast the next or another day?

PS. I get SUPER cranky too when I'm hungry so the hubby might track you down when he's in England in May if it gets too ugly. lol :)
  • hahahaha I am small - ill hide!! I am planning on doing it Monday 28th. Is that good 4u? Will get organised over the weekend and type some of it out 4u :)

Actually, I do fast intermittently, which means I fast for 20 hours out of 24. Sometimes I extend this to a 4 day fast, but that's only once a year and in a special setting. I do drink green tea, but i try to keep it simple.

I also wonder whether the water or the juice "flushes" anything. I don't think the body works like that, I think. I think what is very beneficial, when fasting, is that you give your body the opportunity to process all food, and then do nothing. For me the problem with juice is the fact that you're still digesting, still asking your liver and kidneys to deal with the food you give it. And sometimes I wonder whether the need to "have" something, not go completely without food for a set period of hours, isn't mainly psychological. I guide people on wilderness retreats, where they also fast, while out in nature, for 4 days. Before they go out, everyone is always very concerned about the not eating, then after people return, that turns out to have been the easiest part of the exercise. For me one of the interesting things about fasting is that it frees you of everything that is meal or food related, for a day, and that can be very unsettling.
