Eating slower

You know how we hear that when you eat at a slower rate you eat less? Well, I've always had an issue with slowing down. When the food is good, I want to gobble it down. Well, I have come up with a way to slow myself down & decided to share. I eat with chopsticks. I have found that I don't nearly eat as much anymore. My S.O. thinks I'm crazy for doing this but it's working.

Wow. I really might take that idea. I am like you I basically inhale my food!0

Did that too! It works quite well and I've gotten to be quite good with the chopsticks!0

nice tip. I used to do the same thing but have since slowed things down. It's crazy now because my family (like I used to) will be on second servings and I'll only be a third of the way done with my meal.
Also, another tip, drink three glasses of water with each meal. 1) Fills you up quick. 2) Forces you to eat slower.0 -
I'd get so frustrated that way. Forcing myself to put the fork down and take a sip of water between each bite works well for me.0

If i could handle chopsticks, I would try this! But I would not only lose all my weight, I would starve to death before I got them figured out! LOL! Great idea though! Thanks for sharing. :drinker:0

I saw a TV programme that showed eating slower works as it takes 10-20 minutes for your brain to get the message from your stomach that you are full.
There were a few others things they tried that worked too....
Eat off blue plates, blue is a natural appetite suppressant apparently.
We're programmed from young babies to finish a meal and that is a hard habit to break so switch to a side plate, if you are genuinely hungry 20 minutes after eating have a second helping but do wait the FULL 20 minutes.
Eat in a dimmed room. Experiments where people ate in a darkened room showed 40-60% reduction in the amount they ate.
I can't for the life of me remember what the programme was but it was very interesting0 -

I switched to making sure to take at least 20 minutes to each my luch and my dinner (my breakfasts are typically too small to get stretched out that long). But I just do it by taking smaller bites, drinking lots of water while I eat and, if I'm with the hubby or friends, taking the time to chat in between bites, or, if I'm alone, working on recipes or playing on my phone.
But I learned how to eat with chopsticks when I was a lil kid, so after a lifetime of eating with them, I don't eat any slower with them than I do a fork. lol0
