I started this site January 3, 2011 and it's been more than a month since I have been trying to lose weight. I have lost as of today only 7 lbs and I am working so hard. I have incorporated more fruits and veggies, started limiting sodium, exercising at least 5 days a week at the gym for about 45 mins of cardio or lifting and I am following my plan well. I don't feel a change, I don't see a change but my scale did move down a bit. Any helpful advice of things I can try? I want to start running so the weight can really fall off. Does anyone have any sucess stories from running to encourage me or tips to help me along my journey?

  • Take your measurements. NOW. Getting lean and fit is about more than the number on the scale. And really, aren't you trying to get smaller? And start ramping up your workouts, add weight training. It's the only way to reshape your body and improve measurements even more.

Look at your protein/carb/fat ratios. Low carb, instead of low fat, may be the way to go for some. I love it, myself. :D

    Good luck.

This is not an instant process. It takes time. In my humble opinion you are doing great.
  • First of all its hard. Let me tell you a little about me. I was over weight my whole life...well mostly about 17 when i was trying to join the army and no one could explain why i was gaining. When i got married and tried to get pregnant i couldnt. Everytime i went to the dr they'd tell me watch what you eat and exercise. BUT at the time i was working out 75 min a day 5 days a week at Golds for a year and lost 2lbs. I eat little red meat and alot of whole grains, breads, pastas etc. i was getting frustrated by never losing any weight no matter what i did. I had a friend recommend i go to a nurse practitioner who was a friend of hers. I have since been diagnosed with PCOS (polycistic overies) and low thyroid. Being in the health field, and my job is to teach other people to work out and i am overweight. lol it SUCKS. MY recommendation, humble and limited as it is, if in my experience someone is working out alot, and doing the right things, eating the right foods and NOT losing weight? there is something else going on. I would go to your dr and get checked for PCOS or thyroid. If you have low thyroid it wont matter what you do you're not going to burn anything. I cant tell you how many times while i was working out that i'd get on the scale and cry. I know how frustrating it can be.
As far as running, again in my humble opinion lol :) i cant tell you how many knee and hip patients i've treated who have ruined their joints from running. What i would recommend as an alternative is power walking.

I agree 7 lbs is remarkable and also measurements are a great way to see a difference ....Best Wishes
  • Hang in there and don't give up! I lost 25 pounds last year, but the first 3 or 4 months were slow going. As you lose fat you also build muscle, which weighs more than fat. What I found very helpful and encouraging was using the fitness tracker to track measurements.

I gained 10 pounds over the past 6 months and am working on losing it. I slipped in my habits and stopped tracking my intake on this site. I've been working hard but my weight has not changed very much; however it felt great when I realized that I lost an inch around my waist and gained an inch on my chest.

I am also not a great fan of running, personally it is too much for my knees. I do know you have to change up your workouts periodically to shock your body. Zumba is a great calorie burner and is lower impact if you want to give it a try...sometimes burning 750 calories an hour.

Good luck and keep at it.

Keep at it! If you don't have a digital scale try getting one. It's easier to see small changes on them. I walk fast and run in small bursts because I don't have the stamina to keep up a run for 30 minutes.seven pounds is a significant drop in weight - don't get discouraged! Also remember you could have been gaining those seven lbs.

All the things you are doing are great. Also 7 pounds is great! Are you drinking enough water? Water is a VERY important factor. You need at least half your body weight in water. 200 pounds=100 ounces of water a day needed. Also, are you eating back your exercise calories? This is key as well. Your measurements may have changed. Sometimes results are seen on a tape measure when they are not on the scale.

I have not reached the point where I am running yet, but I do walk at home dvds by Leslie Sansone and they are great!

You have to hang in there. This journey is just that--a journey. It is not a sprint--it will take time. But if you stick with it and don't give up--you'll get there. I've been here 6 months and I still have a long way to go but it's better that way. Because along the way I learn about what got me to my heaviest point, and I face those demons. I learn to change my relationship with food and have a new lifestyle. That kind of change is forever. And it doesn't happen quickly. Stay strong. :flowerforyou:
  • I have been doing this jan31st and working out 7 days a week. I have lost 10 lbs. I truly believe in this program. Remember if you are lifting you may be putting on muscle so the results do not show on the scale

7lbs loss in about 6-7 weeks is a perfect weight loss...our bodies are not computerised machines, but they are a most amazing work of engineering....you may have been abusing it for years with fast food, junk, sweet stuff, chemicals etc etc..now you expect it just to do as its told & get healthy and slim overnight..get used to it girl, this is a marathon not a sprint..look on this as the way you are going to live your life from now on..rejoice in 7lbs lost and a bright healthy future which each month will see a decrease in your weight & an increase in your mobility.
  • You guys are the best thank you sooooo much!!! I am going to check my measurements, get a digital scale, eat less red meat, watch my carb AND fat intake and just keep at it. You have all made my day, thank you again!!
