Weigh-in ... when's best to do it?

I have noticed that I'm religiously weighing myself every morning without fail (until I realised what I was doing this morning and manouvered myself away from the scales rather rapidly).

I'm worried that I may get to the stage where I weigh myself after everything I do/eat - I did this in my teens - before I had my children. I was always around 120-126lbs back then!!! I got so fanatical about not putting weight on that I almost lived on my scales!

Thing is, I've noticed that for the past week, I've weighed myself every day, and I don't want to go back to how I was then - yes, I desparately want to be slim again, but not to the extent that I become nurotice again!

I remember when I first joined this wonderful site, how we all used to weigh-in on a certain day each week - do we still do this???

I think, if I have a fixed day each week, it'll help me to overcome the - weigh-in 7 times a day habit!

I started a thread a while back to hold off on weighing but lost track of it. I try to weight only every other day but the last week I've weighed every day to see how my diuretic is working.

There's nothing wrong with weighing every day, unless you have an issue with it.

May be get a tape measure and measure every week, too--measuring is very important as you will often see inches (or in your case, centimeters) lost but no weight!

Core inches (I WISH  )
I keep thinking abotu going on the scales anyway today, maybe if I keep it to once a day, I'll be ok??
Can't do any harm if I restrict it to once.

How's it going with the diuretic?

If you're going to weigh every day, just do it in the morning, after you use the loo (isn't that what y'all call it over there? ), and before showering. And remind yourself that weight fluctuates greatly in women, so don't get disappointed when is goes up by a bit every now and then.

The diuretic worked great--I lost 6 pounds in 4 days. Doctor said to only take it every 2-3 days after first week, so I haven't taken one now since Friday but still lost 2/10 of a pound!

Anyway, my lower legs and ankles look soooo different! I've never ever ever seen my ankles look like they do now. I can actually see my ankle bones--and I mean it looks like an ankle bone and not just a bulge on the side of my foot!

And, for the first time in I don't even know how many years, my socks don't cut into my legs! I mean, they actually fit now and leave no marks at all!! excited.gif

Gott love those ankles :drinker: !!!!!

I find that weighing only once a week is what works best for me. I weigh every Sunday morning. (you are welcome to join me if you want to try once a week). If I weigh every day and I get a low number - I find it harder to resist unplanned eating. If I get a higher than expected number, I can get angry or depressed and look to food for comfort. So, for me - weighing once a week works.

I do an official weigh in once a week. I find that my weight fluctuates a lot. If I weigh my self everyday I become frustrated and confused. For example, on Monday I might be 165 but on Tuesday I could be 167, on Wednesday 166, on Thursday back to 165. But by Monday I would be down to 164.

I only weigh once a week. Every Thursday. That happens to be the day I started this new lifestyle and that is the day I weigh still. There have been a few occasions where I have weighed on a Monday instead but that was right before I went on vacation and knew I wouldn't have access to a scale for over a week. Other than that, I just do my once a week thing. I don't want to torture myself with the ups and downs a day of food, drink, water retention, etc etc etc......can bring. :)

I HAVE read somewhere that when you do get to your goal weight, that weighing a little more often is ok....to help you STAY on track. Especially because when you get there, it may take some trial and error to figure out the right amount of calories to maintain.

I read somewhere that if you weigh yourself everyday that you are more likely to keep the weight off. For me, this makes sense. I weigh myself every morning and my scale weighs to the tenth of a pound. That way I can take glory in every bit of weight and it keeps me going. If I go off track and gain a little bit back after a special weekend or something, it will only take a day or two to get the extra back off. If I only weighed my self once a week or month, I could end up falling so far off the wagon that I would get frustrated and not keep going. I can see where you could get obsessive with weighing after every meal, but maybe try only weighing once a day or every other.

I am working against obession here. The only way I have EVER been able to lose weight is to really work at it.

It is driving some of my friends nuts because I talk about the great meal I made or the how I actually jogged 1/4 mile for the 1st time, or that my cholesterol is down by 60 points.

Personally I feel they are not being supportive as I only talk about it when I hit a goal.

But I have found I am now on the scale 2-3 x a day. a while back I said I was only going to weigh in on sunday ( uh-did so today and still 151.1 arggggggh)

So it would be very beneficial to me to have a weekly thread for weighing in. I really need to stay off the scale before I buy ex-lax just so I can see the numbers move !

I always do a once a week weigh in. I personally weigh in on Sunday mornings because it's the only day that I always have off. Sometimes I catch myself weighing in throughout the week, if I think I had a really bad food day or something like that...but I never record those weights and don't take them too seriously. I only log and change my goals based on my weight on Sunday mornings after I've gone to the bathroom and before I've eaten or drinken anything.

    Hi
I weigh once week on a Saturday morning.
After I go to the bathroom-#1 & 2 (it can make a difference believe it or not) but before I eat anything.

I have in the past weighed myself everyday and I fluctuated 2-4 lbs either way.
    Which led to frustration.

If I check midweek I limit it to one other time, usually Wednesday.

Hi Jackie - I weigh-in once a week, after I have used the restroom (1 & 2) and have been up for at least 2 hours. On the Biggest Loser Challenge, we weight-in either Tuesday or Wednesdays....:flowerforyou:
  • Hi,
I always weigh in on Sat mornings. I also have the Wii Fit and I too get crazy with weighing in too much and then it bums me out when I've gained some, even when I've been good! So I'm going to stick to every sat morning. Life and weight has it's ups and downs!! LOL
    best of luck

Hey cutie! Just to share - I weigh myself daily only because it is my motivation. I know womens weight can vary greatly overnight, but mostly in me that happens because I didn't stay hydrated properly or TOM is coming to visit. Both things I can track so it helps me keep in mind if I need to tweak something from the day before. I am usually up about 2 hours and have gone to the loo.

I need the motivation. Please keep in mind, I don't eat foods with added salt, oil, etc.... (nor do I cook with those products) so those things can no longer adversely affect my weight. If you do use those things, it can cause a fluctuation. Sometimes a big one in women....

No one person is the same, so don't be hard on yourself. Do what you need to do for your positive motivation... :flowerforyou:

I only weigh myself 1 time a week, on Weds for the BL challenge here on MFP. I find even once a week is too much for me most of time...gets me to obsess about numbers way to much.

It's not numbers I'm interested in...it's how my body is feeling, clothes getting looser, inches lost (ala tape measure) and so on...we're all different but I think if you find it bugs you and feel it's a problem maybe go to once a week ...just pick a day and keep to that....

You know when you're eating clean and getting your excercise in...if we keep to that plan then once a week works best for me. :)

To me a scale is simply another tool to use. :)

Hope you get comfy with your choice so you can move on from there:flowerforyou:
