Since I started dieting i have lost all interest in food

The only foods i like (besides fruit) are unhealthy ones. im miserable when i eat my baked salmon and steamed veggies wishing it were pizza or fried chicken or burgers. Im in school in the UK and the food here isnt very appetizing. any suggestions?:sad:

ive lost interest in food too, I was eating about half the calories i needed last week, just no interest in eating at all, but never felt hungry tho.
Just eat what you can and try and stay your best on the healthy side, Maybe have one of your cravings once a week just so you do get that satisfaction it gives you0 -
I had that same problem, I suggest getting a lot of cook books from the library and finding healthy SIMILAR alternatives to the foods you love. I LOVE baked goods so i learned how to make them with half the fat. also I love pasta and so now I buy whole grain pasta and that helps a lot... for fried chicken I bread mine lightly and bake it, I am not a huge fan of fried food so I wouldn't really have any recipes to substitute, but I just try and eat a lil less and exercise a lil more... so far it's helped me as long as I stick to it0

I agree, a cheat now and then isn't that bad. If I didn't cheat here and there, I'd go nuts lol.0

You might find your taste buds change and you can start REALLY tasting flavors in food! I find bananas really sweet now, tomatoes have more umff to them. I could go on for ages. You should find food you enjoy or you are likely to give up if you are unhappy.

I really hope that helps! Try googling your fav recipes but type 'low cal' or 'low fat' before the meal/food you want. You might be surprised at what you can find.

Go to your local bookstore and find the cookbook section. There will be a good selection of "light" or "healthy" recipe books. Look for ones with a lot of color pictures and page through to find foods that look good to you. If you find a book with several recipes you think you could make (and that look good), buy the book. I have discovered even one great recipe I love and will use over and over is worth the price of the book. You can do the same thing online for free (foodnetwork.com, cookstr.com, etc.). Good luck!0

Thanks guys!! i really like the substitution technique. That acutally reminds me that I changed a homemade beef taco recipe (using a purchased kit) into a healthier version with ground turkey and a bean salsa.

Part of it is that you're body is detoxing. It thinks you still needs those bad things which is what creates the cravings. Stay strong! Once you get past the cravings it's not so bad & you eat to live rather than live to eat. Good luck!0

There are a bunch of simple recipes that are great ways to cook similar things to those which you crave. But a big part of it is what you are saying to yourself. Healthy foods can be super duper wonderful! Sometimes it just depends on the recipe. Also, if you look at eating healthy as a fun adventure, those nasty foods (and yes, I totally think some of the unhealthy foods are nasty - the thought makes me sick) won't be as alluring.
Make the food an adventure and not a "Man I wish I was really eating X." You'd be amazed how wonderful healthy foods can be!0 -
There are healthier alternatives to all that bad food. And, you can still have that food, just not all the time. Find ways to cut the calories in the foods you like, and mix those items in with healthier options at other meals.... when we order pizza from Dominos I get mine loaded with veggies instead of meat. When the family gets Taco Bell, I get a couple chicken tacos (only 190 calories each!)
You have to find a happy medium. You can't entirely deprive yourself of the foods you enjoy, you just have to enjoy them reasonably.0 -
Thanks all. I am not very keen on British food, and McDonalds is the only thing that tastes the same!!! Im hoping that soon i will no longer feel like I am forcing myself to eat.

i try to make heathier choices if i can and as long as i like it, but i dont denie myself anything. for me this is a life change and i tend 80% of the time to eat what everyone else dose at dinner. however i weight everything (and sometime even thought im having the same as every else will cook mine in its own pot so i know 100% whats init) it just means smaller potions and most inportantly i stay within my calorie goal. i also love everything that would seem is no good i had a roast dinner today (roasted in water) i had 50g of beef 100g of potatos 100g of carrots 60g parsnip 100g cabbage 100ml gravy 50g stuffing around 430 cals was very filling.0

Food fatigue!!!!! I got so tired of eating the same healthy foods over and over again (especially cos I follow a vegan diet usually but hate any and all soy based products as well as seitan. I cannot stand fake meat or fake cheese!!!!) that I would just stop eating. I would be hungry but think - I just ate all of this stuff yesterday. I'm not doing it again today - and just drink a few cups of tea while reading about carbonara recipes online and call it a day. I've gotten a bit better at it, but still it gets so boring so quickly. I'm trying to branch out now into other cuisines that are more vegan friendly, like Thai food (which I don't like but am trying to get a taste for). Those once a week cheats are soooo important though! I would get ecstatic over having an egg on toast on Saturdays and wine on Sundays. I fell off the wagon for a good month and am trying to get back on. There was another reply that said your body is detoxing and that is 100% correct. Each day it gets a bit easier and then you don't notice it anymore. For me, this takes about 10 days. Right now I'm on day 2!!!!0

I've developed alternatives to my cravings. If I want pizza, I'll have a lean cuisine frenchbread pizza. If I want a burger, I'll have a roast beef and cheese sandwich on a low calorie deli flat. If I want something sweet, I'll have a low cal hot chocolate or coffee. It really helps to come up with a low calorie alternative to the foods you crave. Don't waste your time eating food you don't like.0
