Fat but fit

Hello everyone. What an incredible resource MyFitnessPal is, I'm hoping it's the one which will finally help me achieve my fitness goals.
About 14 years ago I lost a lot of weight before my 30th birthday through starting exercising and recording the exact number of calories in everything I ate.
I achieved my goals and was left with an abiding love for fitness, I've run 5Ks, 10Ks, one (very, very slow!) marathon and a triathlon. I also love trying new equipment and classes at the gym.
For several years now I've completely failed to keep an eye on my eating and I'm heavier than ever - 14st (196lbs) at 5' 8". It's now affecting my everyday life and my fitness has slipped just because I'm not capable of doing what I used to, and I'm afraid it's getting into a vicious cycle. For instance, I got stuck on one particular session of a beginner's 10K plan (I'm having to start from scratch again) and had to do it four times over until I completed it. It was 5 mins walking warm-up then 3 mins run and 2 mins walk repeated 7 times then a 5 minute cool down. I had to reduce my goal pace just to get through it.
I can absolutely tell my weight is the main thing holding me back. Well, no more. Today's the day I start recording everything on MyFitnessPal. That "calories remaining" feature is a real eye-opener, but just knowing "stop now" could be the boost I need.
I'll keep you posted

Good luck, the diary is an incredible tool. I like being able to see what areas of my diet I am lacking in and which areas I am overindulging.

Good luck to you! I am also a former athlete gone soft, and I know I'm definitely motivated to reclaim my body.0

Thanks for your welcomes. I've been doing the beginner's 10K three times a week and half-heartedly do the odd bit of weights and swimming. I want to step it up to exercising most, if not all, days.
I started Jillian Michaels' 30-day shred today, which I've heard so much about here and elsewhere. Should be a good standby for non gym days.
Myself and a friend are taking part in the Zest Girl's Big Adventure race in June - a bit of running, cycling, kayaking and 'surprise challenges'! Sounds like great fun, but I'll need to be fighting fit and re-learn how to cycle!
First day complete. Just entering my food and drink for the day made me feel a lot more in control. Finding out I had enough left for half a glass of wine was a bonus!0
