Hi all,
I am a college student in the state of Michigan. As you know, healthy food is expensive, and college students are now losing their right to a Bridge Card thanks to the government. Please read about this further, and help those who deserve it to get privileges!!! PLEASE SIGN MY PETITION :-) http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/studentebt

I'm sorry, but the bridge card has been abused by so many college students in Michigan. I live in Michigan, right near a major university, so I've heard A LOT about this issue. If you truely need food assistance, you can still get it. However, many of the college students were abusing the priviledge and didn't even need to use a Bridge card. Instead, college students need to be taught HOW TO BUDGET for healthy eating. I went to college in Michigan and I know it can be tough, but sometimes we have to make difficult choices. I shouldn't have to pay for college students' food intake when I'm already paying for my own. Plus, it would be one thing if you could only buy healthy foods with the Bridge card, but I know that you can buy MANY non-healthy options with the Bridge card and that is widely abused.
  • I agree that some do abuse the privileges, however the governor says that only 18,000-20,000 students are going to effected. Also, think about how many other people (out of the 1.6 million on welfare in Michigan) abuse the system. Shouldn't be looking at ways to control the abuse that happens from less productive members of society? College students use welfare for 4 or 5 years and then they are out working and being a productive member of society. The majority of welfare recipients cannot say this. Do you believe that cutting benefits for college students is the most effective way to cut back the abuse of the welfare system or just the easiest?
