Help with husband

My husband and I both need to lose weight and get into better shape. We used to be so active - we met running and continued to run together (5 more years) up until I was pregnant with first child. Skip ahead 10 years and I finally started running again and eating better. MFP is the most awesome site ever!! I have asked (nicely) if he wants to run again or anything. He says "I should" and it goes no farther. I am not going to nag, but he's not healthy and I would love the companionship again. Any suggestions??

Thanks!

All you can do is take the lead and hope he follows. I am trying to do something similar with my entire family. They are all overweight and out of shape, I am changing my lifestyle and showing results. My daughter is getting into MFP now and is 5 lbs down so I am hoping that my wife and son will follow as well without me harping on it.

Yeah, if you figure it out, let me know. I bought a 3 year gym membership for hubby and me in June. He went with me for the first month. He's not been in 6 months. I asked if he'd use it before I bought it and he said he would. I guess time will tell if he decides to use it before it expires. :)

Approach it from a companionship angle. Tell him that you would really enjoy some company and it would help to keep you motivated.

Yeah, I think set a good example and pray they follow. That's the best you can do. Or find some really cute 20 year old guy to run with.

I am in the same boat....very curious to see what people suggest. And I totally agree....NO NAGGING :grumble: lol
  • I DON'T KNOW HIM BUT IF YOU PUT IT THAT WAY HE MIGHT DO IT FOR YOU NOT HIM!! TRY TO REMIND HIM HOW IT USED TO BE AND THE FUN YOU TWO HAD BACK THEN. THERE IS PROB. NO WAY HE WILL DO IT FOR HIMSELF BUT HE MIGHT DO IT FOR YOU...

    HOPE THIS HELPS

Maybe try easing back into group exercise with a fun approach. If you have some bikes a little nice weather ride can turn into a great workout. Positive reinforcement afterward...snuggle, kissy kissy face...you know.

Same here, wait until he sees the difference, then he will start working out/running. Once my hubby saw the changes I was making he stepped up!
  • Keep trying....but agreed, don't harp. Then, he's going to dig his heels in. I agree with Heather75 and a couple of the others that suggested coming at it from a companionship standpoint. "Hey hon...what about running with me tomorrow? I really miss having you with me when I run."
